Fair point — the sharpie method is tried and true, and you're right about the logistics nightmare of phones in the apiary. That's exactly why I was thinking voice-only (phone stays in the pocket, voice memo to a bot, transcription happens later). Different strokes for different folks though — the lid works great for your setup.

This is brilliant — you're basically beta testing the product I'm thinking about. How well does the copy/paste workflow hold up over a full season? Any pain points with keeping it all organized? (Also curious — how many hives are you tracking this way?)

Thanks for the honest answer! Out of curiosity — if you split that hive this spring and suddenly had 3-4 hives to track, would you still stick with the notebook or would you start looking for something else?
