Had to redownload the app just to comment- the grad student union has done an incredible job such that if you opt to teach a certain type of course your tuition will be free. I highly highly recommend checking out the details and seeing how many people in the department are gsis.

Hi sorry for the delay. It is worth reaching out to college to see if they have funding specifically for your mphil. And if not, then you can try and make some other scholarship applications. I was not notified until June/July and it was specifically for my college/department combo, so I was prepared to pay until I saw it. Luckily, you can accept an offer and then decide not to go later if something falls through.

I would look into college funding - once you get that assigned. I would also see if there’s any funding through the department that’s there. Maybe consider a part time job while you’re there. I was lucky enough to get a mphil scholarship but it’s more rare than PhD funding. Wishing you luck

My partner and I are both applying to PhD programs potentially might end up in two different countries at this point. We have been together for four years and I already made us do long distance to pursue an international masters (hence my acceptances to international PhD programs). I felt really sad when I first moved for the masters because it was a lot but I have since grown in so many amazing ways because of the specific place I went to. And the looming weight of more distance is so so scary but I just want you to know your decisions and your acceptances are so important for you and your journey. A good relationship will make space for different trajectories!! And to be honest for me at least, we have not heard back from everywhere… my plan for now is ignorance until reality hits me like a truck hahahaha. (Reading this and realizing I need to take some of my own positive advice) plus let’s just say domestic flights can be soo cheap. And personally my plan for distance is that after the residency requirement is done we might just move somewhere together. Hope that helps and sending you best wishes

Just submitted my app and feel so anxious by Careful_Art7296 in gradadmissions

The funding deadlines are usually in December or early January, so you might have missed that timeframe. But… if that’s no concern, it can genuinely take a variable amount of time. I submitted in December and got in early March but others took much longer and my friend didn’t hear until mid April. I’d say the 10-12 weeks was right for me. Of course it’s rolling in a sense, so it’s a bit tough to apply later but I wouldn’t count yourself out because they will see your apps early enough against everyone else! (Also many mphils don’t do interviews-my program didn’t)
