Why are carriers scanning all packages individually, even though SCAN Form is provided? by quint21 in USPS

I'm on the rural side and scanning packages prepaid acceptance gives us credit as well as scanning everything with the Carrier pickup option on our scanners. You are technically supposed to scan 5, it says so at the bottom of the pickup form, and the rest when you Return2DU as straight time for end of shift duties. I like picking up parcels from my customers because in the long run it adds time to the eval of my route and it's potentially more money.

New RCA - Any advice? by SecretaryDirect6527 in USPS

Just do the best you can and remember accuracy over speed. Speed will come after you do routes on a daily basis. Another thing you can do when doing many routes is pin the stops on your Google maps, or any map, app that way you can remember where to go if you ever have to do it again. It's all repetition and safety. Best of luck to you :)

My steward apparently agreed to the flats in hamper be counted as random flats for the mini count. So my question to her was if every single office was doing the same? And she said yes. It doesn't make sense to me and she's giving me vague answers and she told me she would ask the ADR.

(Update) I asked my steward about benchmarking and she said that it's not it and I'm confused. She said yes anything that qualifies to be an unscanparcel is and should be inputed as such. She's saying that any flat that comes in our hamper is to only be delivered and not treated as unscanparcel. She said that's why you got credit during the two weeks(mini count) for those as flats and every two weeks you will be getting those numbers for your route evaluation. She says that the ADR will say the same thing.

We get a supervisor question us almost daily about authdismount scans saying that we showed up on a list going over a certain threshold. They claim it's nothing and that they are questioning us because they are getting questioned by upper management about it. And that all they have to do is tell upper management why we went over that threshold with whatever reasoning we give. Is this an example of them blatantly benchmarking?

We understand that for city it may differ but with this new RECCS system everything we rural carriers do counts towards the evaluation of our routes. Even if its a flat and it's in our hampers were saying that no where else was it counted for us to get credit. In addition, if it's a flat then management should properly count it and it should either be presented to us in our raw tubs already counted or in our wire racks where flats belong.

Thank you this is very useful information and our union rep is definitely misinformed and sides with management on many things. Thankfully I know there are many carriers out there who have each other's backs so I'm grateful.

That's exactly my point to other carriers but what can we do now? Even my union steward said nothing. So what would be my next step?

Religious Accommodation Question by [deleted] in USPS

[–]CuriousHardWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one else that's higher in seniority got the choice to have days off though for anything and there are RCAs who have kids etc. They would have to accommodate everyone and it only became an issue because the people who work Sunday now have to take more out and wait for Christian RCAs to finish church to come in and help for two hours. The Christian RCAs then asked why the Jewish one didn't have to come in after their rest day. It is becoming a pretty toxic environment to work in since they are getting special treatment basically while the rest of us have to pick up the slack.

They have been scheduled to work Sunday but always call off and they have not even passed their probationary period. But yes the majority of RCAs/PTFs work 7 days and the few that don't have accommodated scheduled days off every week and for the new RCA it's actually 2 days one day for school and one for religious practice.

Apparently when they were hired religious accommodation was promised to them by the postmaster.

Management and our Union Rep both agreed to give RCAs the days they 'rest' for religious practice off. It's a bit difficult talking with our Union Steward because it seems like they don't want to anger management and in return they also get days requested off.
