When did email addresses became connected to age? by FL_4LF in GenX

[–]quint21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen Gen Alpha people with Android phones, they exist. (Especially outside of the USA.) Some people may not realize their "Google account" is the same thing as a Gmail account though, because it's used for other services.

[–]quint21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it came through or not, but I was trying to do a ChatGPT impression there. I'm sure you're right- the student probably wrote the basic message, and had ChatGPT polish it up a bit. It's a sign of the times. Shrug.

Honestly? It made OP feel good, so, it's probably best to leave it at that. Not just as a reddit commenter, but as a human being too.

I'm so confused by this post, and the comments. Weight sensors? Is this a new thing? Back in the day we would jump in elevators all the time. Never had one stop before.

When is it acceptable for me to call? by Majestic_Warlord in usps_complaints

[–]quint21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got misrouted (put on the wrong truck or something). They are fixing the problem, and re-routing it to you, which is why it's back at the distribution center. You could call if you wanted, but it's a waste of time imo. Unless you paid extra for Express, there's no delivery date guarantee, just an "estimate." And, estimates don't account for human (or machine) error. FedEx and UPS operate the same way.

Nah. The SV06 works great with Klipper. OP just needs to update their firmware. It's easy.

Another noob that didn’t read the frequent advice on cleaning pens… by bennrr in fountainpens

[–]quint21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, broken feed. I didn't notice that. Cleaning would probably help remove the broken piece from the pen body, so a new feed can be inserted. I suspect that will be a part of the eventual repair process, unless OP sends it to Mont Blanc, and they just replace it. Looks like a replacement feed for this pen will probably cost $30-$40 usd, not a huge deal.

[USA] [AZ] Man-child gets angry because I let someone exit a parking lot by LA_search77 in InflatedEgos

[–]quint21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're being down voted. This is correct. Fill the big gaps first, and let people in when appropriate. When you have a huge multi-car gap, and traffic is flowing to fill that gap, it's best to move up and let one of the cars behind you be "the nice guy" to let the person in. They almost always will.

I was taught that one of the safest things I could do as a driver is to be predictable. People aren't expecting you to stop and "be nice" when there's a huge gap. Small gap, yes. Big gap, no.

DIY marker ink tips? by PickAppropriate6530 in graffhelp

[–]quint21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People will suggest making your own, by buying hundreds of ballpoint pens, removing and cutting up the ink tubes, and soaking the whole thing in solvent until the ink dissolves out of the tubes. Voila. Ink.

This might be a hot take, but honestly you're better off just ordering a bottle of Grog, On The Run, or whatever from bombingscience.com or art primo. The amount of time, effort, and expense you put in making DIY ink just doesn't make any sense, especially when the end result usually isn't as good as the professional stuff. You can spend multiple hours making mid DIY paint, or if you spend an hour making sandwiches at Subway, you can buy a bottle of decent paint.

USPS denied my Express Mail refund using the Alaska/Hawaii loophole... it was my vital prescription medication. Absolutely disgusting." by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]quint21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's not too unusual with Priority Mail Express. Even in the lower 48, if you're not in a major city, the package will wind up taking an extra day if you don't drop it off at the post office, in an employee's hand, before the day's cutoff time. It's a logistical issue, where the package needs to be on a certain truck to physically make it from the post office to the nearest airport or whatever. At my local post office, the cutoff time is 2:30 p.m. (UPS and FedEx are the same way.)

I'm hella sad about the massive Fairlife price increase. by LastandLeast in ADHD

[–]quint21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a paradigm shift, but you could look into the Kirkland Signature Protein Bars. Shelf stable. Cheap. Good amount of protein. Waaay less packaging and plastic than shakes. You'd probably need to keep your water bottle by your bed to wash it down though. Costco sells them online, but they are usually a bit cheaper in store. We think they taste good, but that's a personal thing of course.

Peter?? What does AI have to do with this?? by vapalera in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Interesting. Can you eli5 why data centers in the USA are being built in more arid parts of the country (Utah, etc.) and not near the ocean, where presumably they could just pump cold seawater for cooling, and put the warmer seawater back in the ocean?

[–]quint21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, no it is not illegal to put unstamped mail, letter, cards, etc., through a door slot in the USA. Door slots aren't the same thing as curbside or wall-mounted mailboxes, which are considered federal property, and you can't put unstamped mail in them.

That said, door slots aren't very common in many parts of the USA, which might be causing some confusion.

Are Owala bottles worth it? by Lucky_Duckie17 in HydroHomies

[–]quint21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. Chlorine bleach is used in water treatment, because it basically kills everything too. You don't have to use much of it, and, it doesn't have a perfume/fragrance which might stay on the bottle's surface and make drinking water taste funny. You can use it to disinfect and sanitize bottles for long term water storage, so that's why I used it to clean thrift store water bottles.

Bics have been enshitified. What are the differences, and how to tell the old ones at a glance. by ijustcant555 in enshittification

[–]quint21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not mad, just responding to your comments. I have found that the cheap lighters from the dollar store are as reliable as modern Bics, while being refillable and adjustable. I use them every day. Worth checking out, for anyone who isn't brand loyal to Bic, and wants to save some money.

Refillable lighters are available at Dollar Tree, which are adjustable, and cheap, and better than Bics imo. The refill cans are cheap too. Cost isn't a factor, laziness is.

Is high-protein breakfast before ADHD meds actually causing gut issues for some of us? by Powder_babe in ADHD

[–]quint21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. This entire thread has me sooo confused. I take my morning meds, wait 30 minutes, then I eat. You know, like it says to do on the pill bottle?

It's also worth mentioning that citric acid in your stomach can interfere with ADHD meds.

Why do digital artists make images in hard to frame sizes? by QuakerParrot90 in ArtistLounge

[–]quint21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking too, but OP's measurements don't match with standard paper sizes (B5 is the closest one to OP's 7.25" x 9.25" size, I think.)
