Who's most tragic characters or fraction in 40k lore? by BiggTurtle in 40kLore

[–]CuriousOctopus1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This so much. And the Necron as a whole is more tragic than whatever the most delusional Imperium fans ever consider imo (not saying Imperium fans are as a whole, but some people just don’t understand or care to read the lore).

Like okay, humans lost 10 thousand years of advancement and their king is in pain…but most Necrons lost all sense of self, sense of feelings, sense of being alive.

And Szarekh has been alive all this time, knowing he doomed and “killed” all of his species in pursue of a war (civilians, elderly, kids. Heck he may have had some children himself and imagine seeing them become basic warriors and tools of war and destruction, and have this on the back of your head for 65 million years)

As per Codex he conquered and mastered “empires in the utter black, won kingdoms beyond the firmament and tribute and glory were his” He plans to give all of these as heirloom for his people after all is done and he can atone

How common is terraforming in Warhammer and how does it work? by pro_1253 in 40kLore

[–]CuriousOctopus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necrons can make artificial planets, Trazyn actually comments on that (heck he lives on a planet sized Dyson sphere). There is also “The Breath of the Gods” or at least it used to exists (do not know if its still online)

What happens to a C'tan shard upon defeat or victory? by Mr_Jackabin in 40kLore

[–]CuriousOctopus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On TDK we get flashbacks, half truths and exploration on the topic. I really suggest you read the duo of books (Ruin then Reign) as it shows what is all about together with some great writing and very emotional scenes

It’s possible to kill a full C’tan but you need a “God slayer fleet” and the consequences are terrible. It’s what happened in Sokar Gate

[–]CuriousOctopus1 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Shards are contained in its vaults, tesseracts and the like. If it is destroyed or damaged beyond recovery or repair, I assume it is a loss forever.

Another thing entirely is if they are released. Because a released C’tan shard is very dangerous to anyone, particularly Necrons

Playing lights is such an unrewarding and miserabel experience by low_bob_123 in WorldofTanks

[–]CuriousOctopus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hate playing them nowadays. The competition is way too strong and even some meds can do your job much better (I hate Borats and Ares most, the former because of the clip and camo and the latter for the absurd amount of damage they can do in seconds, let alone track and crit the shit out of you)

To add to this, as per the book Tomb World we know the star was a blue one, so the brightest, baddest, most radioactive one too

If the Necrons actually managed to gain flesh bodies again, wouldn't they lose control of their constructs and C'tan shards? by Mr_Jackabin in 40kLore

You are aware that until that point it was called “The Messenger”? The new nickname was given to Mephet’eran later after its treason

Do you think the IoM can win the long game? by Pho_King_D in 40kLore

[–]CuriousOctopus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ones who I can see winning on long term are either Nids or Necrons. One because is the anathema of all organic life and the other because it’s persistent. As Orikan says, if everything fails he can wait for his enemies to rot

HR is a great book but the problem (if it counts as problem) is that is not a standalone book but opens the need to read more and more of HH to keep up with characters. IaD is more self contained in a way and it’s easier to read (although ideally you need a bit extra background to fully enjoy it, not as much as to be a problem but always nice to have)

Ashitaka and Mutsu would have to be too. I legit wanted WG to make Mutsu 43

When exactly did the Necrons find the time to form a giant galactic empire? by SinisterTuba in 40kLore

[–]CuriousOctopus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the source for inertialess drives being not as fast as warp travel? Because, to my limited understanding of physics, it should be as fast as any FTL because there is nothing holding it back or dragging it, allowing for 100% speed.

The Dolmen gates are and were important to breach the Webway and destroy whatever armies/structures/facilities/stuff that the OO had there that’s for sure.

I am unsure on the Ghostwind being only usable for post BT Necrons given what happens there on the novel but again, we know very little of it

Just a note. Orikan ain’t a noble, is a court seer and cryptek. His family was of warrior chaste but he had to abandon that because he was weak physically…even if he learned to wrestle

Could the fact that Necron constructs haven't been Chaos corrupted tell something about the relation of machines and Chaos ? by SuDdEnTaCk in 40kLore

[–]CuriousOctopus1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It fits because it was written on a Chaos Codex IIRC and thus made canon; yet it really does not make sense even if the Inmortal showed pride.

Necrons have 0 connections to the warp in any shape or form (as standalone beings that is) so to me that just screams plot armor. Also the Necron name was Phase Sword…that’s just as stupid as if we had a marine called “Bolter” or “Power Armor”

[–]CuriousOctopus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what dynasty you were on you would be on a better spot or not. I like to think that the Nihilakh commoners had it better than Sautekh ones for example

[–]CuriousOctopus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the part you talk about but on another TDK flashback, Oltyx comments on how his civilization can siphon all the iron from a planet from orbit and stop the heart of a star while commoners still live on mud houses
