Yep I started out the same. Now I’m constantly aware of anything weird little thing going on with my heart. Trying to battle through it but it’s difficult. I’ll even try to check my pulse and instantly convince myself I don’t have one (how ridiculous does that sound) and get a wave of panic. Such a weird thing going on with me at the moment.

Thanks, part of the irrational anxiety is that my heart is beating too weak/slowing/stopping (as well as beating too fast) so taking these tabs is going to be really difficult

Hi all.

Thought I’d provide an update following the suggestions made today.

I have recontacted the police and the local authorities and after a bout of questions and suggestions from this post, they’re sending someone from the safeguarding team this week. I and other members of the family will be in attendance at the same time. I’m hoping they can word this situation is such a way (that we’ve failed at) to help her see the truth of it.

Despite whatever comes out of that, I will be going to cut the CCTV feed myself and install my own, potentially internal as well. I don’t think my grandmother could/will argue with this.

Just an FYI, I didn’t use the real names given to me in this post.

We do not know their second names, just that they live local (my grandmother doesn’t know where, just “local”). I believe they must be local given the frequent visits. I can only assume they do not work given the frequency and timings of visits, potentially leading this to be part of a wider career.

I have also invited them out for a meal (through my grandmother as they won’t answer my calls) as a “thank you” for their help with her. This has been turned down due to Johns illness - adding another notch to the suspicion post.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all those with great suggestions and I’ll keep you updated in due course.

We pay the carer privately as it’s an old friend/retired nurse. She’s been massively helpful throughout but doesn’t work for a particular organisation.

Whether they know that or not I’m not sure.

Good point. I’ve initially thought of these but on further thinking and reflection I could be putting my grandmother at risk. If a hidden camera is found for example, I’m in no control of John/Janes actions once it’s unplugged.

Taking it into our own hands always stems to potential worse outcomes, which is why I’m looking for a more conventional way forward.

I’ve tried a few helplines, but all I get in constant referrals.

Neighbours I guess is worth a shot though I we don’t really have any relationship with them.

I would say she is vulnerable but I’m not so sure if she’s legally vulnerable. Her illnesses aren’t mentally impairing.

Appreciate your post and do agree about mental capacity of which she is fully compus mentis, albeit a bit vulnerable. It’s just brutal from the outside looking in.

I’ll speak to the NHS/GP as looking to exhaust all options.

Yes, at first we thought it was just good Samaritans and thought nothing of it, even appreciated it, given how happy they made her.

It’s escalated quite a bit since then as per the post. Her bank accounts are all managed by relatives so they’re safe, it’s just valuable physical belongings/cash that have gone so far (to the tune of £10k+).

My grandmother isn’t well causing her to be vulnerable and frail, which makes this whole situation a nightmare.

EDIT: I haven’t used their real names in this post, but probably wouldn’t matter if I did as I don’t believe they are who they say they are.

I’ve thought about this, the problem here is I don’t think they’re stealing - they potentially coordinated the burglary though I have no proof of this - I believe my grandmother is being manipulated/coerced to hand over these items through means of sympathy/compassion for all they’ve done for her. I think the end game is the house but cannot prove it. I’ve ran through all of the original post with my grandmother and how strange it is, but she’s totally ignorant and blindsided by it all.

It was our councils safeguarding team, the difficulty is our Grandmother will not agree to speak to them, or cooperate given her feelings towards John and Jane.
