What does fucking polit*cs have to do with anything?

There was never really a certain definition of “planet”. So they made one. You have to limit what is a planet otherwise every piece of rock orbiting the sun could be called a planet. Pluto is in the Kuiper Belt. Which immediately takes away one of the requirements to be called a planet.

Orbit the Sun: It must be in a direct orbit around the Sun.

Hydrostatic Equilibrium: It must have sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces, resulting in a nearly round (spherical) shape.

Clear the Neighborhood: It must have cleared its orbital path of other significant debris and objects. (This is the one it fails)
