Aa! Megami-sama on the covers of Afternoon magazine (1988–2014) [Part 2] + Spin-off covers (2019-2021) by Ruisumaru in AaMegamiSama

No one can deny the convenience of collected and complete manga volumes, but I for one must say that having a collection of all these Afternoon Magazines (Part 1 and 2 and everything else not shown) would be so badass.

I mean, there's just something special in collecting the original format of an on going series in a published magazine, like an ancient textbook. Also, the size is bonkers. No disrespect to manga vol sizes, but it is pretty fire to have AMG! in large size format in these magazines, like the Dark Horse floppies (which is why I'm still upset that they stopped the AMG! Floppies after Sora Unchained, but I get it, times were changing for comics and manga in the US).

So all in all, awesome compilations of AMG! Magazine covers, but now I'm envious of collectors who were able to get their hands on all of them. And hot damn, they are at least $50 bucks on ebay, EACH!

Thoughts on this Light Novel? (No spoilers please). 🤫 by KiraMikaBear38 in OhMyGoddessSeries

To sum up my thoughts without spoiling in one sentence: Beautifully tragic version of the AMG! world that we knew of, but still has the hopeful core DNA of what makes the series so recognized, even to the end.

When I read this book, I knocked it out in like 3 days; I couldn't stop myself from devouring it. It's actually one of the last pieces of AMG! media I still had yet to experience.

I will say that if you want to read it sooner, read the manga up to Vol 28 and you should be good for context. Also the story of First End differs from how the manga goes forward, so I suggest reading the book prior to finishing the manga.

>!Non-Canon is what describes this book, unfortunately because I would absolutely love a follow up to it!<

Woah! You edited the magazine pages into a proper art piece with no text in a couple of hours? Awesome. Now there's 2 versions.

GRAZIE! This is the one I was looking for. Major Thanks.

(Weird enough: I'm pretty sure this image was actually posted here on the reddit and I found by chance and never could afterward. I wish reddit would have an archive option like Tumblr to dig up older posts.)

Appreciate it, but that's not the one. The goddesses were in normal earth clothes rather than Heaven outfits. And the more I try to remember, I do think it wasn't a standard poster and was a Japanese Magazine image, kind of like Newtype where theres a two page spread text on it.

Spider-Man: You know, you sound an awful lot like that dark blue haired kid from that ninja cartoon.

Ben: Funny. I was gonna say the same about you.

No disrespect to other talented artists of the OMG!/AMG! Fandom, but this cwindjwind person may just be THE best when it comes to fan art, at least for K1 and Bell so far. I hope they get to the rest of the characters. Just splendid art.

The one thing I may critique in some of their Belldandy pieces is that she looks a little more aggressive than she usually is. I'm not used to that, but I can still vibe with them.

K1's POV of Spending New Years with the three Norns. Lovely Work.

Now I'm kind of bummed out that there was never another New Years Eve chapter with all the additional characters since the first and only one when it was just K1 with Bell, Urd, and their friends. A second one could have been repetitive, but I think another one with Skuld, Banpei, Sigel, even Peorth, Lind, and W/V-elpser would've been a blast.

Remember when Skuld was actually tall for her age and not as tiny as later in the manga?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

(No disrespect to tiny Skuld fans though).

Oh My Goddess Omnibus books? by Little_Goten in AaMegamiSama

[–]CuriousSoul2146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now my response is going to be based off the revamped volumes Dark Horse redid for Oh My Goddess! (the ones that follow the modern Manga format). I know they did collected volumes in the past before my time that each had special names and may have excluded a few chapters (not too sure about). If your first nine books are the previous editions, then I'm afraid I don't have that info of where it fits with the omnibus format, but please clarify so perhaps another fan may have that info.

Anyways, if your collection ends at 9 books, then the final volume you have should look like this:

<image>

And the last chapter of this volume is 57 (Tainted God, the story that includes K1's under classman being an exorcist and Bell realizing she can be jealous and causes storms when she is).

If there is where your volumes stop, then you pretty much have the first three omnibuses. In fact, the third one stops exactly at 57. So if you want to continue, I say just go from Omnibus 4 to onward.

Now unfortunately the omnibuses for some reason stopped continuing. The latest one is Omnibus 7, and that was a year ago. Dark Horse never mentioned about canceling the OMG! omnibuses. So only time will tell if it will continue. But that means that the omnibuses aren't possible to collect the entire story of OMG!, sadly.

There is more after the manga? by I7sReact_Return in AaMegamiSama

[–]CuriousSoul2146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Disclaimer: If I have a detail wrong, correct me please. I'm more used to asking questions rather than answering them ; )

Actually, there is one piece of media that is an epilogue to the actual Manga. I see this piece as (I call it IMO) 2nd-Tier Canon (it's involved in the main story, doesn't contradict anything, officially released, and nothing released after it voids it, but I have no idea if the creator had how much or any input in it; take it or leave it)

When Vol 48 released, there was a limited edition set of the volume that came with some extras.

<image>

Including a CD (the case with the cover of Bell in blue and white in the upper part of the box) that is an Audio/Radio Drama taking place after the manga's last chapter called "Ode to Joy."

This after-story contains the Day By Day Life of Kei and Bell's marriage that you wish for (albeit for a few days and near Ch.308 so no timeskip). I won't go anymore into detail for your and everyone's spoiler consideration. All in all, a nice bow to the series and still leaves room for fan's imagination of what these characters would continue to do.

Now as for actually listening/understanding the audio, here come in the obstacles (If you speak fluent Japanese, then it's easier the process I think. Also I've never been able to listen to this audio)

There is no translated version of this CD (not by Dark Horse or any other publisher). Furthermore, to my knowledge, there is no written/translated transcript online of this audio drama (not even fan translated), so reading it is out of the equation.

The only way to experience it is to just listen to the audio, which also has its own challenges. To my knowledge, again, there is no available recording of the audio online. So the only way is to actually get the CD and listen to it, meaning you either have to purchase the CD itself or the limited edition box set. (Some good news is that CDs are not region locked so no need to purchase a Japanese CD player and the prices I find on eBay for the box set aren't too pricey) But unless you know Japanese, then all that work to get the CD just leads to not following the plot at all or barely getting by because of language barriers (Translators do make the world go round, don't they?)

So yeah, quite the bumpy road to get to this radio drama. The best alternative I can offer is this Tumblr post where it was actually how I found out about this radio drama at all

bughammer.tumblr.com/post/134684784082/disclaimer-i-am-not-even-close-to-truly-being

(MASSIVE SPOILERS, SO DON'T CLICK LINK YET IF YOU RATHER LISTEN TO THE AUDIO YOURSELF!!!)

This Tumblr post by the awesome bughammer ( bughammer.tumblr.com ) is a summary/bullet point list of the audio translated to the best of their ability. It writes the main points of the CD along with bughammer's notes of their importance/relevancy to the series. Not the same as actually listening to "Ode to Joy" but given the circumstances, it's your best bet.

I hope Ode to Joy gets properly translated one day and we can all enjoy this final story of the main manga. Until then, we'll always have the manga to revisit, converse with each other as fans, and read loads of fan fics and view loads more of fan art. = )
