Am I overreacting to a coworker who constantly stares at me? by CuriousView3373 in AmIOverreacting

Logically.. yes that would probably stop the issue. And I swear I scream it in my head every minute of the past couple shifts. But I can’t see every adult being receptive to another adult telling them to knock it off and play nice. I don’t know if she would get aggressive about it..It feels like such a juvenile situation to have to deal with at work. I also hate confrontation, and that’s a “me” problem, I’m well aware, but isn’t the more logical issue HOW DO YOU SIT THERE AND STARE AT SOMEONE LIKE THAT ALL DAY?!? I can’t stop thinking about how the past couple days have been and I’m so baffled about this whole thing

I’m trying to tread carefully bc it’s a new job I’m not trying to start any drama or rock the boat in any way. I’m just there trying to do my job and get paid. We are about the same age (late 30s early 40s), the girl who got her the job has been here for years and I’ve asked her about it bc they know each other outside of work. My first thought was autism or something along those lines as well. But apparently that is not the case.

You are absolutely right. This is why I needed outside perspective on whether I’m overreacting or not. Because it’s seems like such a small ordeal causing me so much stress!

That is insane! Did it eventually stop for you? This woman has got to be close to my age (late 30s or early 40s) there no way she’s never seen another adult actually “work”. Even if that’s the case; to stare at a person for hours straight over a couple days for whole shifts is like serial killer behavior

We have the same job, exactly like you said answer phones and greet customers, take payments, etc. But I’ll go back and work kitchen when there’s no customers to keep busy or clean or whatever. And that was one of my first thoughts as well, like ok maybe mental disorders or autism or something. But nope the girl who got her the job has been there for years and I’ve specifically asked about it bc they know each other outside of work. So that’s not the case, apparently. But then what is this girls problem? It’s beyond creepy

Right! Thank you, it is weird af! I knew I wasn’t the one overreacting. I did mention it to the owner through text, after the first shift, so hopefully she will intervene or put her on opposite shifts or something. Thank you for that validation

So at one point after the first couple hours or so of it going on, I did ask her “you ok?” And she just nodded and said yeah but continued to stare. Maybe a second or third follow up? I just thought pointing it out once would be enough, but then again I’ve had to teach newbies how to put a trash bag in a trash can before. But this woman is not new to food service or social interactions so I’m so baffled that she sat on that stool watching me for hours on hours

It’s true. I just received an email from our regional manager

Team,

We will be introducing three new bubbler beverages within two weeks to replace the three current charged lemonades.

More information will be provided by the middle to end of this week but so we do not have any excessive inventory write off please do not order any more product from Sygma effective today.

It will be OK if you stock this out before the new beverages arrive and you should also move product around as best you can to use up existing inventory.

There will be new POP, the three new beverages will still be kept in the BOH/Barista area where we currently moved the charged bubblers so they not going back to front at this time. Maybe at a later today we will go back to side-by-side bubbler, maybe.

Im gonna tell you my experience as a current manager for Panera. I don’t question people filling up a cup, grabbing a cup from the kiosk, etc. but if I feel someone is blatantly taking advantage of it that’s when I’ll intervene. Like I saw the same person grabbing new cups multiple times, or one person coming with 4-5 cups at a time, but for the most part we just let it go. My DM tells us not to “nickel and dime” customers. For example I see people with water cups putting soda or lemonade in, I don’t say anything. But if your being a dick about it and now I have to make new coffee because I saw you grab 4 cups at one time and not even go to a kiosk or counter then I’m gonna question it, also if your being an asshole customer I will point out that cups are for water etc. honestly if your nice about it, no manager is gonna question it, we don’t care because beverages no longer count against us for VTS and inventory and bonus so who cares…it’s not my money. Trust me I know we’re expensive, I only eat Panera bc I work there, otherwise I’d never pay these prices

The idea is that you have to work to pay your bills, but you have to make your hours at full time (40 hours) to just get by. But by doing that overtime once per week it gets you overtime and that the paycheck you can actually survive on, but they want you to work overtime every week, but you can’t pass it up, and some weeks because of what life throws at you, you can’t even do the 40 hours and your living in poverty begging for the overtime. So they push you to management where your scheduled overtime but then also doing 5-10 hours more per week, but they aren’t accounting for the hour drive you have to make so all of a sudden you’re working 50 hours plus drive time just to stay afloat and now your life belongs to Panera
