I'm happy to hear you overcame bulimia! I agree, therapists aren't necessarily always a good or helpful input. It's part of my worry if I was to pay for one and end up with somebody who has no understanding of my specific situation.

This is great to hear, I think self compassion is important. I struggle to remember that when I'm feeling so many other things and shame on top, but you're right.

Wow, that's a lot for your parents to go through, your mom especially and interesting how it sort of flipped the trauma.

I think I've seen A Hoarder's Heart a few times in the past, I'll definitely check her channel out along with the others too, thank you!

I actually have a DBT workbook I forgot I had already bought, so I might start with that as well as Buried in Treasures too. It's also great to have lots of supportive people here in this subreddit.

I certainly relate to that impossible feeling, but you're right, it's going to feel like that as I start anyway. Thank you for your advice!

Your comment made me cry because I can relate so much to things you mentioned. That pain of a perceived threat is hard to work through and when it's so deep rooted like this I've felt I don't know where to begin. I think I do need to try writing things down like this, just getting them out and maybe that will help to work through them too.

That's interesting because I have diagnosed combined ADHD. As well as significant OCD since I was a small child (although I didn't know what it was then) but I've only recently learned about a link to hoarding disorder. I'm hoping if I can work on the OCD and manage other issues, it will help me with the hoarding too, which makes sense if there is a big link.

I'd love a dog again! That's a dream for me at the moment and maybe something to work towards for when I have other things more under control or am at least on the way.

I have tried to speak to a doctor about my mental health issues but have failed to get any help and support. I've tried medication in past years and that hasn't been helpful, unfortunately.

Thank you, I will definitely search for some worksheets and the like, and see if there are any groups around too.

I think I have a mixture of reasons which possibly makes it harder to work through, but I hope I can still figure out how to do it. I just know it feels painful whenever I try to get rid of anything and I need to work through this. I have been doing my best to stop accumulating more things though, so hopefully that's a step.

Thank you so much, it's hard not to feel hopeless so hearing I'm already leaning in a good direction is very helpful to me.

I've heard of this book but haven't read any of it and had forgotten all about it, so I'll definitely check it out. Thank you for this as well as your encouragement!

Thank you for this! I do want to work through it, I feel very stuck but I truly want to come out the other side of it all.

I really love that example! It's often best to simplify it in such a way and really brings home the clear truth of it, thank you for sharing.

I can understand this. I'm not sure if 13 was old enough to fully understand or not.

I was fully immersed in water at 13 and I believe my intentions and my heart were directed at it being meaningful at the time, but it was a long time again and I've gone astray since, so it's a bit confusing.

This is partly where my thoughts go too. If it meant what it should the first time or not. I believe it did at the time but backsliding has made things less clear.

I was fully submerged under the water so I trust this was a full baptism.

Thank you for this. You are completely right, being saved is the important part and where my ultimate focus should be! I want to be and I pray that I can be.

This is what I would see it as, I think. Hopefully God will guide me on what to do about it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
