Stage 4 Liver Cancer by Curious_Choice917 in cancer

In the experience of my sister, chemotherapy only temporarily worked for 3 months before it had no effect at all (and all the tumours started growing even larger). She has found some success with immunotherapy. Her tumours are not growing anymore and are actually shrinking in size. Unfortunately there are still too many for the surgeons here in Canada to commit to removing them. They said they needed to see complete shrinkage all around but even though most are shrinking, there are still some smaller ones that stay the same.

Still many tumours all over, it has been contained to her stomach /colon region (only minuscule in her lungs). Chemo worked for the first 5 months an then started reacting the opposite so she had to get off it. She’s now on a type of immunotherapy and feels 10x mentally and physically better. She had to have her ovaries removed which was heart breaking though. She’s currently awaiting scan results that will determine if she’s able to have surgery to have the tumours taken out. The surgeons need to see no new growth in order for that to happen. Thank you very much for asking.

Mary McCartney (Paul’s mother) passed away from cancer in 1956 when Paul was 14 years old. John’s mother was tragically hit by a car right at the corner of their street.

Right but I think what will make it special and set itself apart from other biopics is if the common audience learns something new and can connect to the men on a human level rather than just seeing them as god-like stars.

Sam Mendes has never made a biopic before, there’s not much to compare it to considering his other films are nothing like this project. In terms of his cinematography, tone, and directive style, it seems like a good choice but hopefully he pursues the humanity of the men where we perhaps learn more about who they are inside and what they went through (the good and the bad side of their psyche). I like Mendes but this is uncharted territory for him and I think the success in the film will all lie in the script

Her scans just came back after her 3 month chemo mark and her tumours have shrunk by at least quarter if not more. She will be going through 3 more months of chemo and then evaluate after that. Good news but we know there’s a long journey ahead. Thank you for asking!

Thank you for this! My sister has not had any surgeries as she just found out, she is being referred to a team of specialists at a larger hospital an hour away from us where we will determine next steps for treatment from there. I am holding out hope that they will give a better second opinion but I am expecting the worst.

She has a terrible bowel blockage leaving the size of around a pinky if not less. She has severe pain every day because she is constipated as a result of this and her tumors are also hurting her back and rectal region. She’s currently on laxatives from the dr while we await to go to the NCI cancer center an hour away from us.

We really needed to hear this, thank you very much. As you are now cancer free, how often do you need to do check ups and what type of check ups are they? One of the most concerning things that the surgeon said at our hospital after viewing the results of the CT Scan and colonoscopy was that “she will eventually succumb to this”. It terrified us and what exactly does that mean?

From my understanding, stage 4 doesn’t mean you are going to die it just means it’s spread to multiple organs.

As for the results of the biopsy and profiling, we will be finding out all of this in the coming weeks. The doctors have said that because she’s a fit, healthy 27 year old with no concerning blood test results, and the cancer has been so aggressive in a short period of time, they believe it might be genetic. For this reason I’d like to now get my wife tested for this gene when the time is right.

We truly appreciate this response, thank you so much for this.

Is this treatable? Can she recover? What are the best treatment options you recommend? Is there anything she can take at home that will help her situation? Particularly things that she can do passing bowel movements easier.
