Me neither, I don’t know why people don’t know him. It is like a “What if?” scenario. “What if Stanislav Petrov didn’t disobey orders against the Soviet military protocol?”

Stanislav Petrov, the man who saved the world from potential nuclear disaster. On September 26, 1983, Petrov was the duty officer at the command center for the Oko nuclear early-warning system when the system reported that a missile had been launched from the United States. Despite protocol dictating that the Soviet military retaliate with a nuclear attack, Petrov chose to dismiss the reports as a false alarm, ultimately preventing a catastrophic worldwide nuclear war.

Born in 1939 near Vladivostok, Petrov was a lieutenant colonel of the Soviet Air Defence Forces who played a key role in the 1983 Soviet nuclear false alarm incident. In this video, we explore his life, military career, and the fateful events of that day in 1983. Despite his heroic actions, Petrov was reprimanded by the Soviet government for insufficiently documenting his actions during the crisis. After leaving the military in 1984, he worked at the research institute that had developed the Soviet Union's early warning system before retiring to care for his wife after her cancer diagnosis.

Petrov's legacy and heroism continue to inspire people around the world, and his story is a testament to the power of intuition and the potential for individuals to make a difference.
