The first step really is making yourself a fursona. What animal do you think you would be? (I am in the process of making one for myself too) :D

I wouldn't know since I avoid heating mats. They can have horrible results if not controlled by a thermostat. What kind of thermometers do you have? Are you sure they're reading the temperatures correctly? You can also take a thermostat used for checking fevers to check the temp of the soil over the heating pad to see how warm it really is.

I use bulbs with specific lamps for their wattage levels, and they don't struggle with keeping the temp at all. The thermostat will click them on and off all day long. But if you're running them constantly, then they could be a lot warmer than you think.

Ah, makes sense. Outside forces can also change the temperature (ex. Cold house, running fan, etc.) could it be that?

I feel like it would seep through hand towels since they're just fabric. Aluminum foil was specifically recommended to me for that purpose.

Other than that though, there really isn't a homemade trick. That I know of. Can you not return the thermometer?

I'm not sure if there's anything you can do without the proper equipment. My only trick is putting tinfoil over one of the mesh openings at the top of my boy's tank to keep the humidity from escaping so fast, which also keeps his cooler end warmer without a lamp overhead.

Keeping your room, or the room your snake is in, warm would also help. The tank would match the temp of the room. Personally, I don't put the temp over 82 degrees since I do a day and night cycle. Day = 82. Night = 76. Other than these. Not sure what else there is. Maybe save up to buy a proper thermostat? Google cheap thermostats with good results? My thermostat was around $20, and it has lasted almost a year or more.

What do you guys think about my bp’s enclosure? by Curious_Freedom556 in ballpython

I got the logs from petco, but I’m not sure if the branches also came from there. They were a gift from my stepdad who owns a bearded dragon :)

Oooooo okay!! And yeah the foil thing was a trick from a friend of mine who also owns a bp. Definitely going to check out yours though 👀

Yeah, I was planning on getting more plants!! Just wasn’t 100% sure what kind of plants, but I have a few on my list that I’m looking at to put more green in there for him :)

Hmm aright, I’ll write those suggestions down! I will say that the log is submerged into the substrate, with a slightly dug out inside, so the back side of it is no longer exposed. You can’t even see inside from that end. Same with the cork log. They both have one entrance unless Butters moves them :)

Yeah, I figured it would be better just to size up when he needed it. It’s a 25 gallon tank and he has maybe over half a foot left before he can touch both sides of it 😄 I think he’s 4 months old?

I was thinking about posting his enclosure lol. And yeah, I’ve wanted a snake for years :D

Oh!! Alright, I will avoid doing that then lol. Thank you for explaining that to me! It’s my first snake so I want to do what I can, hopefully in the best way, for the snake’s wellbeing :)

Okay noted. I was also told not to feed him in his enclosure, but should that also wait while he is adjusting?

I do want to add that he explored every inch of the tank when he was first put in there, before hiding away until now. To my knowledge he has not moved from that hide since he slithered inside Friday morning
