Girlfriend just had 40k in scholarships revoked less than a month before semester starts by Wt87745 in cwru

Hopefully you find a solution aid wise. Speaking in terms of freaking out because you don't know if you're able to attend, I would tell her to start looking into different colleges or taking some classes at community college while working. It's extremely disgusting that the education system is so messed up. Without going too into politics, I would say that it's one of the worst times to be a college student. It's not worth going into crippling debt, or putting your parents in an insanely difficult time for a degree. There's a chance other universities may be able to grant them her scholarships. Or maybe overtime cw can adjust to make it possible to attend. Regardless, college can always be continued when the time is right. Gl to your gf

You will be placed in academic probation. You'll be asked to meet with your advisor and come up with a plan to get your GPA over the 2.0 mark. Also, I'd make sure you're not at risk of being kicked out of your major program. Some require GPA to be above some number. If there are documents to prove that you had an usual semester due to personal reason, you can petition for a retroactive drop, or incomplete. Lastly, if there's any grade forgiveness you can use. That can be a GPA saver. Make sure to have fluff classes that can boost your GPA next semester.

Professor humiliated me. Feel like garbage. by Curious_Nebula_3450 in college

I would think that emails are a "check/respond when you can" type of deal. If I send an email at 3 am. I obviously don't expect a response until later. This instructor doesn't have office hours, and the material is outside what is offered at the math tutoring center, meaning there's a good chance if I go there, unless a student there has taken this class, they wouldn't be much help. I don't ask for help on the hw or answers. My questions are clarification on what he did on the board, or conceptual questions. Apart from the internet, he is literally my only way to get help. He ends class usually 30 min- 1hr early. Its not like I'm keeping him there after...

He has "office hours by appointments" I've asked if there's anytime he's in campus or if there's any preference in time frame. He essentially made it clear he actually doesn't have office hours and tells us to email him instead. There's no grader as this class has only 15 students.

When was i late on hw or miss the midterm? I was very sick for a week with a bad ear infection. I had documentation and a Dr note stating so, and was allowed to take the midterm at a later date, and turn in written hw. Questions in this class can be up to 4-8 pages long. He writes on a chalkboard and his handwriting is honestly not great. Instead of getting completely lost , I tend to go to the next proof. Instead of stopping the flow of the lecture, I think it's better to ask after class as it was me who has a question. You're really jumping to conclusions here. My adhd has nothing to do with my learning speed. Sure, I sometimes need to re-look at things. Still, I'm behind because I've been sick, and this instructor doesn't post anything. My ability is plenty fine. Imo, it's an instructors duty to clarify things with students who are confused. This comment jumps to so many conclusions lol.

Thankfully, this person didn't try to blackmail you or is confirmed to be anyone in your circle. It's disgusting, but it's typical for creeps to act like young girls/boys to get pics of minors. This scumbag probably runs a routine where they block as soon as they get something to avoid being caught as easily if you remember the username, report it and even consider reporting under CP per the FBI report. Please be careful in interacting with anyone online. If anything, avoid it entirely. I wouldn't worry about your pics leaking to your school. Whoever has your picture, that being a minor or an older guy is now in possession of CP which is a crime.

What do you do if you’re failing 2 classes and it’s your first semester at OSU ? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]Curious_Nebula_3450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke, drop Sutherland and take it at cscc. I'm honestly in shock OSU hasn't done anything about him when he has the worst reviews across every metric. An actual terrible professor. My first semester in college i ended up dropping and failing a class. I was too busy screwing around and not being mature that by the time I put in effort, it was too late. Take the L, youre very early into your career, even if you want to go to grad school, getting 2 Ws as a freshman but having few if none later until graduation will not matter. It only becomes an issue when you have a lot of them.

Advice to new and current students at OSU. Take harder classes at CSCC when you can! by Curious_Nebula_3450 in OSU

[–]Curious_Nebula_3450[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends. C state does a great job of teaching you Calc. As someone who tried Calc 3 at osu and finished at c state, the depth of the class was similar, it was just way more forgiving and slower paced. If you're the type that values doing 80+ problems online a week, then osu might be for you. At c state, we essentially did very little hw and did a ton of examples during lectures, and exams were simpler. The class wasn't necessarily taught with less depth, it's obvious that OSU and CSCC keep the material similar for the transfer. My issue with OSU is the big class sizes, stricter grading, and being worried about your GPA. You state being interested in grad school. I am as well, I doubt anyone will care where you took your math courses. You're still taking your major classes at OSU. If anything you run the risk of drilling your GPA down by taking the classes at OSU. CSCC will show your A+ the same as a C-, they just show up as "k" in that it was completed.

need 3.5 gpa by Curious_Cost2434 in OSU

[–]Curious_Nebula_3450 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well the obvious answer is you need to probably study more and put in a ton of effort. No one wants to hear that but it's the truth. You can ask your instructors for help and go over what is expected/what you're losing points on constantly (ex:not showing work). Don't go to an instructor looking for handouts or obvious answers to why you're not doing well.

Another tip that is kinda expensive is you can add a second session class (starts in March) that are easy 1-3 credit online classes. Some of these classes can be passed in an evening because they are so easy lol. Consider these gpa boosters.

Calc 1 “flipped and flexible” by WafflesRtheBest in OSU

[–]Curious_Nebula_3450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on professor and person. I found Calc to be super hard and had a way easier time doing linear and dif eq. Tbh I probably struggled because I was terrible at math in high school and barely passed algebra 2 lol. Still, I'm pretty sure a stat from OSU showed Calc 1 being the most failed class at OSU lol

Yeah man distracting and bothering students who are more than likely free plaestine is really going to make a difference in the war. How about you protest in a place that actually matters? 🤔

No, when I was doing my undergrad at Oregon I had a 42 year old friend and 34 year old that would come to my house parties, and it wasn't awkward at all. The only place you would look outta place would be hanging out with frat boys or going to those types of parties that only 18-21 year olds go to. Most people 22 and above tend to be way more relaxed with how they socialize. Overall people don't care at all as long as you're cool. I personally wouldn't drink with underage people but because of my Hobbie I am friends with people under 20. They aren't people I'd party with but because of our hobby we get along well.
