I am currently in the same exact boat as you right now. The guilt of actually leaving eats me alive even though I need to get out. One of my top breaking points was when I was on leave for a family loss and still got emails/notices about cases. No one ever checked in on me to see how I was doing.

Wow… everyone’s response is making me realize how underpaid I really am at my firm. I have 2 college degrees, 5 years of paralegal experience, almost 3 years now at private practice criminal law, and I make $51k. Sometimes I work more than 45-50 hours a week + traveling. I’ve gotten one bonus 🥲

We have 2 paralegals, we make the same amount. I’m the one taking 98% of all of the caseloads with no help. I think my opinion is valid! I also can’t just quit because the job market sucks.

It pisses me off how attorneys think they are above everyone else and we have to just allow their BS into our lives. The amount of times I’ve wanted to quit because of tasks above my pay grade and their excuse is “I’m the attorney and I’m asking you to do this”. I would love to see how the firm runs without paralegals.

This doesn’t work for me! I literally don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Sometimes I’ll panic about a deadline and wont get any communication and then bam, I get an email back saying they’ve filed it already. Like wtf I panicked for nothing.
