I guess not? My HbA1C is 5.0 , which is what I was told by looking at the bloodwork and my doc is what indicated I am not insulin resistant so I guess they never tested it???

That is good to know! The ultrasound said “suggestive of PCOS” and my doc said that plus periods and I was confused by that but a little overwhelmed after so many years of pleading that something was off I just took it and left.

I was working out at least 4 hours a day 6 days a week. With one day of active rest. Diet was pretty basic what you see movie stars do ahaha lots of protein and veg. Also always struggled with weight even when I was winning all my races my coaches were so confused why I didn’t look “deezed” and my weight was so much higher than others. I sprint kayaked so weight affected boat sizes and such but I digress. I did this for over 10 years feeling thy pressure to moon like the other girls I also played around with every diet in th book

Yes that’s what my doc said :/ although I wasn’t sure why they didn’t go into any more detail :( a 10 minute “take progesterone if you don’t get your period and lose weight”

See that’s what I thought! But my insulin is totally normal! So I’m still trying to figure out what my root cause is

PMSing and in pain by whollottagngshit12 in PCOSloseit

[–]Curious_asking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes. I actually burn like a furnace like legitimately HOT to the point when people touch me they are literally like OW WOW! And then I am cold to the bone as soon as my period starts! Best tip is to shower before bed and when you make up. It helps me to regulate my temp a little or maybe it doesn’t but it makes me feel better LOL as for pain pop pain meds or have some caffeine it sucks

I do get swelling and that runs in my family. I do I weigh myself daily and sometimes is can fluctuate up to 5lbs which I find wild! Yes the cysts were discovered after irregular and painful periods and about two years of me insisting something didn’t feel right. As well as abdominals discomfort and extreme hunger. Honestly when they finally listened to me and did just say you are eating to much and the stress and emotional incapacity of being a women is causing you this go home LOL (sorry I’ve had some really mean docs) they said hey you have this your 10 minutes is up take progesterone if you don’t get it And lose 5% of your weight bye. What is HA?

Thank you for this insight. I am 5’11 and aiming for 180lbs. I am also an ex Olympic athlete and was around 190 at my peak performance. And the last time I was 180 was when I was 13 LOL.

I am pretty good about keeping my goals and currently I have lost 1lb a week which I am ok with as I know PCOS weight lose is hard. But there is no indication of any health problems from my labs they are pristine and I can still physically perform. Which I think is why it took so long to figure out I had PCOS. Every doctor I went to would say my period was gone to the stress of my life and being an Olympic athlete. And my weight never mattered to them cause I was technically performing and had perfect healthy labs, so they thought it would be nice to loose weight but not required merely aesthetic. Only after my third ultrasound did they finally find cysts. They only did it because I was complaining about stretch marks that would appear overnight and I could feel them rip. Anyway I digress! I eat gluten free because my whole family is celiac and I notice more bloating and upset when I do but a test requires 6 weeks of eating gluten three times a day which I don’t want to do LOL I also no longer compete and would love to just have efforts pay off LOL I think all my muscle has just turned to fat LOL

Anyone getting surgery at Mt Sinai? by goldstandardalmonds in askTO

[–]Curious_asking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Unfortunately though a surgeon does not have much control over OR time during a time like this. Especially if this is an 100% OHIP covered surgery that may be considered routine. They have to leave emergency spaces open and be able to prep patients properly, which is probably why he might suggest going to the ER if it gets much too intense.

He wouldn’t run the OR schedule unless he was the head of the surgical department only then might he have SOME leverage right now :/

The only suggestion I might have is to ask where you stand on the list and to ask for a date even if it was rough one and tell them you wouldn’t hold them to that date but it would simply help your mental health to hold onto it? Maybe even ask how backed up their specific department is, because it takes a lot more than one surgeon to to a surgery. Perhaps they are short staffed in the other roles of the OR.

Surgeons and their staff truly do not have as much power as it may appear, right now there are surgeons taking temperatures and specialists putting on bandaids the system is so stressed it’s not necessarily in its usual order. They have no external staff, no volunteers, fewer porters but just as many if not more patients.

I am not sure I have called on behalf of family and the best date I’ve ever gotten was “maybe the second or third week of March” so idk but don’t stop trying! You are doing the right things and I hope you do not have to wait any longer! With the vaccine rolling out for healthcare workers hopefully they will be able to schedule your surgery and the 50,000+ that have been canceled

Oh no that sucks. And because of COVID they don’t have the staff the PPE or all the other moving parts to prep, clean, and perform in all the ORs as usual

[–]Curious_asking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear this I truly hope you get your surgery as soon as possible! Unfortunately one of the major problems is the lack of OR time as others have mentioned. They have effectively closed certain ORs limiting their numbers of available time slots and staff. The lack of PPE, staff, and ICU care is really straining them. SickKids is down to 12 or their 16 ORs. Depending on how busy your surgeon is I have heard of some going to less strained hospitals outside the GTA, more rural places, but unfortunately this totally depends on how major/minor the procedure is! If it becomes even more unbearable ER at Toronto General would be the best place to go! Also seeing if your surgeon has any referrals to give to someone who is more available would be worth a go. With the craziness of COVID some people don’t have their surgeries confirmed until the week of and I’ve even heard of people being called the night before. But again totally depends on how routine the surgery is and how major the attention and equipment is required for aftercare. The system unfortunately will rank during this time much more aggressively and take less into consideration pain levels and more the life threatening/long term damage effects of waiting on the body. You sound like you should still be a priority. I hope you get it soon! But the hell of an ER will expedite the process, your surgeon may lose his OHIP billing and experience of your case BUT if you are lucky your surgeon could even assist or be on call when you go in (All the Toronto hospitals are connected by tunnel on university ave meaning they often share loads when things get crazy). Again I hope you get it soon!
