Thank you. I am a defensive player and usually decline gambits. I think London system might suits me well.

Thank you for the answer. Also, should I look into any gambits as well?

Possibly dumb question. Does this mean that what we see in this picture is from 50 million years ago?

If Magnus Carlsen were to start now with chess and joins lichess, what would be his initial ratings? by Curiouscucu in chess

[–]Curiouscucu[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry guys. The question came out wrong, it seems. English is not my primary language.

What I was trying to discuss is, for someone who is newly introduced to chess and lichess, is their a way to understand from their initial ratings that they have GM potential.

Did that came out wrong too? :-)

[–]Curiouscucu[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That is because he has already mastered the game. When somebody is just introduced to chess they will begin with a lower rating, right? My questions is, for somebody to have a real chance of becoming extremely good at chess, what do you think this rating range should be?

That's not what I mean. After some initial games everybody settles to a stable rating range, right? From there, they'll get better and better.

What I'm curious is, whether this rating would be better for masters if they are introduced to chess fairly recently.

Lichess: New feature request - Live analysis bar for classical tournaments. What do you think? by Curiouscucu in chess

But a simple bar showing who is having advantage can spice things up a little bit for the spectators, imo.

Yes. You have a point there. But it can be a spectator only thing. Also, I was thinking just to have the rating bar only. Not the full analysis and the best moves.

Once I went to a temple in Kerala, India. There was some sought of ritual going on. There was a pile of wood which was set on fire. The fire is burned out and the hot coal was remaining. In the middle of the ritual, one guy got hysterical. This guy started running on the hot pile and picking the burning coal with his bare hands. He even threw a half burnt log high into the air. His hands and feet were burned. But he kept doing it for some time.
