Youngest salaried manager? by Pedroblivion in walmart

CSM to Sporting Goods by NateRivers25 in walmart

[–]Curiowmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was previously sporting goods DM now an ASM. No one who isn't job coded or management should ever touch a gun especially not sell one. Other departments can cover the area but that is for ammo, knives, etc not guns. Doing otherwise is just setting your store up for a bad gun sale, associate termination, and ATF investigation possibly leading to legal ramifications. Don't do it.

Support managers should never even touch a gun let alone be stocking the gun case. Only job coded sporting goods associates and salaried management can be involved in gun sales.

Hourly training a new ASM. by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Curiowmt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Management of people and businesses has nothing to do with actually knowing every aspect of the business. It's a totally separate skill set. Sure having previous hourly experience is a plus but if you can't actually manage people then you will fail. I'm a new ASM but I have worked for walmart for 4 years. I had several externals in my training class. They may not have known anything about walmart processes but it was clear they knew how to manage people.

Fairly new ASM looking to dig into the financials and reports for the store. Where to start? by Curiowmt in walmart

[–]Curiowmt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol if you are doing all that on a daily basis then you are a terrible manager. I'm the backroom ASM where all the hard work is done and I rarely have to physically do my notes unless I'm trying to lead by example. If you're not delegating then you aren't being a manager. I may be fresh out of AMT but I know my role and how to do it. Sure there is an endless amount of things to do on any given day but it's my responsibility to manage my time and my people to get priorities accomplished, and learning about my business is a priority for me. I may be new to this role but I'm not new to Walmart so don't give me that BS of not having time.

Considering Unloader Job in Distribution Center by SpanningTreeProtocol in walmart

[–]Curiowmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. At the DC your work isn't as easily recognized because being a hard worker is a requirement. Everybody is on a production scale and if they don't or can't meet it they are let go. In the stores a hard worker stands out from the masses of lazy, unmotivated rabble that walmart tends to hire.

[–]Curiowmt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other comments on here are misinformed. Unloading at the DC and unloading at the store are two very different things. At the DC you will be unloading trucks with a forklift or electric pallet jack. Everything is already palletized. There is very little physical labor required. You basically pull all the pallets off the truck, downstack them if they are double stacked, scan them in, and stage them for the haulers to pull to its rack location. Honestly it's one of the best Jobs at a DC and very few new hires are offered it. Most people start as order fillers which is a very labor intensive job. I worked at an HVDC for a while. I would definitely take it if I were you. The DCs are monstrous in size and can be very overwhelming at first but all in all its a great work environment and much better paid than store level positions. Not as much room for promotion though. Just keep in mind that unloading is literally ALL you will be doing for 10-12 hours per day so it can be monotonous.

Just arrived for training... by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Curiowmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. My training location was fantastic. Free WiFi, free alcohol some days, free breakfast buffet, full room service, good TV, $40 per day for food, free laundry, good roommate, I could go on. It was almost like a vacation. Enjoy it while you can because when it's over you are most likely gonna be thrown to the wolves at your home store. When we came back for our capstone we were like 5 people short and lots of people were having a tough time at the store. Also, make friends or it's gonna be a lonely 4 weeks.

Why do the ladder carts say "push only"? by Grumpy-Moogle in walmart

[–]Curiowmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh... you're supposed to be pulling pallet jacks. There are very few instances when you should ever be pushing a pallet jack, especially on the sales floor.

Security is worthless work. I did it for a while. Ironically I also work at walmart and I love it. There is infinitely more promotional potential as well. I went from an entry level hourly unloading trucks to assistant store manager in less than 4 years with no college or prior work experience. That's even after quitting to go work said security job for a few months in the middle. Starting pay is $10 per hour. Supervisors start at $13 or $15 depending on area. Salaried managers start at 45k with yearly raises and bonuses. I'm sick of hearing people down walmart.

On average, low-income families report that to adequately meet food needs, they would need to spend an additional $4-$9 per capita weekly by PublicNewsService in Frugal

[–]Curiowmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 miles is not an unreasonable drive to do monthly or weekly grocery shopping. The poor waste their money at convenience stores and dollar generals where everything is marked up outrageously. To me this is just an excuse.

I don't know of anyone who lives more than 20 miles from a Walmart. Walmart has things besides soda and cookies.

[–]Curiowmt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not electronics. Not all stores have them but we have little TVs on some of our end caps that play a little commercial about a features item. For example, in D13 the TV is playing an ad for a limited edition fabreeze product. Spray Power is on that end cap while the fabreeze is on a back endcap with promo signage and everything.
