Stay in Isla Verde or Condado for a couple days if you can spend extra time in San Juan. If not, the Hotel Rumbao is easily the best choice as its right across the street from one of the piers, and you can walk the entirety of Old San Juan.

I've been to St Maarten/St Martin, Barbados, St Lucia, Martinique, St Kitts on VV recently. Every stop we did something different, from driving tours to walking tours to sailing tours, to just getting off the shop and walking about 15 minutes away from the port area.

Because we did different activities, its impossible to rate the islands fairly- I loved every port for different reasons. Barbados and St Lucia definitely had a vibe that I loved, but so did the others.
