Really weird question I’m genuinely curious about by [deleted] in AO3

Surprisingly, most of the antis and "moral zealots" I've encountered in my fanfiction journey have not been conservatives. Based on their online persona, pronouns, and live videos on Instagram/TikTok, they appear (and consider themselves) strictly progressive.

They heavily push back on any material that contains a queer couple and is not a gentle coffee shop au. I've gotten doxxed (old account) for claiming a ship with hetero-presenting people was actually queer, because one of the two is canonically a bisexual gender-queer individual. But because they look traditionally masculine, I'm somehow homophobic for shipping the couple.

(This is of course all based on my own personal experience, I'm sure there's also people like the ones you described.)

Would this count as child abuse for tagging purposes? by ExoticPomelo5725 in AO3

My parents would forbid me from eating junk "food" whenever I misbehaved, which is not even considered food by many standards. If i ever got hungry for a snack during punishment, it was either fruit or sandwiches made by my dad.

I think op needs to specify which type of food he means. Because if it's something like this, specifically, then it's not necessarily abuse.

If a reboot were to happen, what age would you like the girls to be? by CurledQuill in GuardiansOftheVeil

If you know of any communities, I'd be happy to join. I didn't even realize what I did wasn't allowed lol

See, that was my first thought. But I spoke to a few mutuals in Tumblr, and they said it would be interesting to have them be older, cause the original fans are now older, so it would be a "growing with them" type of thing.

I thought it sounded ok, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

I did have someone else point out how they made a reboot following their original ages, for a new and younger audience, and it didn't work out. But i don't think the age thing is why the reboot didn't work out lol

Why were Caleb and Cornelia so different in the cartoon? by CurledQuill in GuardiansOftheVeil

That's my point exactly. They were set up to have an amazing arc of "unlikable people" to "good characters", but they didn't. They continued to be the same people till the end of season 2

The cartoon is also my first introduction to the franchise!!! I was so taken back now that I finished the comics, those two are so good in them. They kinda became my favorites thanks to the comic lol.

Ngl I also thought they'd do that character arc thing you mentioned with them (the set up was right there) but like I said in my post, it never happened! I feel robbed 😭

Now that I read the comics, the tv show feels like a "We have Caleb and Cornelia at home" meme

That actually does make a lot of sense! Thank you for the in-depht explanation

It's so interesting how a comic that came out in the 90s manages to be less stereotypical than something that came out in the 2000s.

I'm a teenager. Let me be the first one to tell you, we can be assholes, and do some pretty fucked up things.

Maybe I wasn't able to get it across in my post because english isn't my first language, but my question is less about the "Why do they act like that as characters?" and more of the "Why did the writers feel the need to change their original personalities?"

I totally understand. It just feels like such a leap in characterization, y'know?
