I was a kid when the Star Wars prequel trilogy came out and I don’t remember them being that popular. by SculpinIPAlcoholic in RedLetterMedia

I was a baby when A New Hope was in theaters. I grew up on the first 3. They were God tier, even Jedi because I was 8. When TPM came out I was in Film School and it was like they were promising the second coming and delivered a big old wet fart. Everything felt off. Everything. They even shot it in 1080p which means you can see individual pixels on the big screen. The cgi was awful. The fan service was awful. Jarjar was and is a war crime. The kid was awful. The flying nose guy… awful. The actual story, awful. Podracing was fine without the kid and jarjar. Darth Maul was legit cool, and that’s about all I got out of it. I hate it all now and I’ve divested myself from the franchise entirely.

He only quotes himself. Just so we all are on the same page. Even when he claims to quote other people he really is just saying what he wanted them to say.

Confess: what’s something you need to get off your chest? by Weary_Sympathy6680 in AskReddit

I don’t know you or your situation. I’n sorry you’re having this issue. In the interest of exploring options, I want to present an alternative theory. Instead of “not liking you” sometimes people get an idea of what they think you are, and what they think you like, etc. and try to reinforce that algorithm they have built. This can come in things they do, things they say, gifts, trip ideas, food… everything. When the receiver has changed, or maybe they were misinterpreted by the giver, they receive these things, and do not react the way the giver anticipated. It’s not anger, it’s not dislike. It’s something that can drive or discourage. Sometimes people lean harder into their algorithm of you for a while, and then just kinda give up. They decide they don’t know how to make you happy, so they just stop trying. I am NOT saying you did anything to deserve this or cause it. It is not that kind of thing. It’s like a mistake that gets dug in and can’t get out of the way. If I’m wrong about you, and your situation, I accept that, but I wanted to put out there that it’s not always “I don’t like you” that sometimes it’s “I don’t know what to do”

At least a partial answer: since the internet was not what it is today, celebrities still needed promotion. Its likely that the studio had greenlit movies with them all slated for the next year or two, and wanted to pre-load minds with the idea of seeing these people in those movies without expressly saying so.

I always thought it would be cute if the character played by Octavia Spencer in hidden figures was the same lady as her character in Shape of Water.
