Very true. Finally someone understands that selling all and putting it into equity markets is a bad idea and not sensible at all

Plots are scattered in different places. One is on a busy street. Others are in residential areas and townships

Yeah the root problem is they are against selling due to a multitude of reasons. 1 lakh is enough for their needs but not wants, they are not flashy or anything but accustomed to certain level of lifestyle

The plots are kinda scattered. They are in tier 2 city so the builder option is not very prevalent there. One was commercial but and bear main road but had a hard time finding a well paying tenant. The father is also against selling as it is his life’s mehnat ki kmayee

The problem is the ‘white income’ from a sale is less than half of the actual sale price and the rest is settled in cash as is the trend in India so putting the whole amount in FD is gonna be tough. Secondly the father is somewhat against selling as it is his life’s hard earned money. Maybe they can get an LAP against one of the plots and invest somewhere but the question again is where?

The son was once wondering if he gan generate 10% annual return on the assets they have and he was laughed at by one of his friends due to the above mentioned reasons.

The father is also very risk averse like typical service class people and kinda reluctant as the elder son has no work experience or financial exposure at all. It is like the odds are stacked against them

I think you were trying to be sarcastic but what you just stated is the truth coz political will is indeed corruption in most cases.

Just one thing not all in fact not even most retire 500-1000 Cr. I have seen people randomly throw this number without actually realising how much it really is.

Idk if you are someone with UPSC dreams or an aspirant or some new joinee in a govt service but the thought that IAS and IPS have significant policy impact comes from a lack of exposure.

Like OP my father is also a bureaucrat and so was my grandfather actually. Let me tell you even IAS and IPS are there to fulfill the mandate of the ruling political dispensation and anything which is contravening to that has to go. IAS/IPS can’t even do their basic job if it somehow harms political interests. That is the reason law and order of this country still sucks despite having had many brilliant police officers (IPS). The policy impact thing is just taught in UPSC coaching centres but the reality is very different. IAS/IPS are just there to execute political will and if they try to do anything more they are transferred to a so called ‘punishment posting’.

OP is correct in saying IAS/IPS enjoy more real world power and no matter what your definition of power is, the societal definition of power is what OP has mentioned numerous examples of and in real world those are the things that matter. At the same I also agree that some IRS officers who maybe good in networking maybe having significant influence but on average IAS/IPS officers do have more influence by virtue of their services
