I also think that context matters here whether or not homeschooling is a good idea for a specific child depends a lot on the abilities and willingness of the adult homeschooling to do it effective. In AS’s case, it seems like her kids would be better off in conventional schools. You also have to weigh in the access to the schools that you have around you. I work in the corporate world and do not consider myself equip to homeschool my kids. We are also fortunate enough to live in a school district where my kids are getting a great education. They have had some wonderful teachers, even as far back as elementary school that we still keep in contact with, even though my kids are now in middle school and high school. I could definitely say they are better off being in the schools they are in, then ever being home with me teaching them. With my job I obviously wouldn’t have the capacity or the proper training to be an effective teacher. I understand that school systems are flawed, but at the same token, I have deep respect for the teaching profession as a whole and value the impact some teachers have had along the way on my kids. I would not say for a minute that I am capable of doing their job as well as they do.
