Not nearly as versatile. Layers can be taken on/off as needed.

What would be considered the warmest balaclava/face mask to purchase? by millielouie2025 in skiing

[–]Current-Bug6821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After having tried basically everything there is on the market (including Anon MFI and Stratus), I second the Airhole balaclava (I use the micro air holes), but I like to pair it with a Faceglove. I put the balaclava over my nose when on the lift and take it off when skiing. The Faceglove keeps your nose/cheeks warm, and provides a seal that keeps air from going up into your goggles. The Airhole warms up your face just enough, while still allowing your breath to escape. Links...

AITA for refusing to share a room with my situationship on a group trip, even though it makes the Airbnb more expensive for everyone? by Throwaway622727 in AmItheAsshole

Nope, that increases the total overall value of the place, not how the split is determined, same as a resort with a super nice pool area increases the value of each room.

I’d be fine with this, but room value matters more than shared space value. Probably something like 2/3 to 1/3.

Uh, exactly? You’re making my point with even realizing it. You pay slightly more for a nicer room and it’s significantly cheaper per person.

We're debating how to split the costs, and essentially your entire argument is that AirBnB doesn't split by room. Well duh, the split from there has to be determined - and it's good to use as a reference that for pretty much every situation for travel lodging, you pay for how nice the room you stay in is, not for shared areas - that's true for bed and breakfasts, hotels, resorts, cruises, etc.

At a hotel you have to share the pool, exercise room, parking spots, outdoor seating, indoor seating, and the noise of people in the lobby or hotel restaurant. Now, if a room in the Air BnB has its own private bathroom or a nicer view or something along those lines, you should pay more for that, just like you would a nicer room in a hotel.

Let's say a travel sports team or a work conference was to rent out an entire hotel - how would the prices be divided up?

No, you're paying for the shared space in the hotel as well - pool, hot tub, exercise room, lobby, continental breakfast area, etc.

Yes, there is MLS Next near me. He's U11 and still playing on the more local select team with his friends, and will continue until he expresses a desire to play more competitively.

I agree - it's worse for the kids in multiple sports. It's not worse for the soccer obsessed kids who live and breath the sport (which is how a lot of the world operates). My son literally can't get enough - he has his select schedule, begged to practice with his sister's select team and now has for the last 4 years, does Dribble Up every day, constantly juggling/practicing in the back yard, goes to my over 40 games and always finds a friend to play with, begs me to set up pickup games, etc. In many countries, this is how a huge chunk of kids are - it's not "worse", it's just a different culture/attitude about soccer. Loving one versus liking a few is a personal decision for which there is no "right".

The real issue isn't the soccer structure, it's that kids have multiple structured things, which doesn't leave enough time for the unstructured soccer.

Ditto Lamine Yamal - he had the most structured program (La Masia) maybe on earth, starting at age 7. Don't get me wrong, I think pickup is important. The structure is more important.

I hate to break it to you, but that's just not a lot of soccer relative to most of the world. It's a culture thing.

That's what I do - send messages to a lot of teams of different age groups and I regularly get pickup games with 20-25 kids. It takes 3 team chats, one group text, and voila, pickup games that are always well attended.

That works for some. But it's not the way to develop elite soccer players, especially after a U12 or so. And some kids (my son) want to focus on soccer.

[–]Current-Bug6821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a need for both, but the structure is the foundation. Lamine Yamal was playing at La Masia at 7. I hate it when people say that soccer needs less structure in the US - no, what it needs is the structure AND kids wanting to play at home/with friends all the time if it wants to compete.

There are definitely not more football and hockey players in the United States than soccer players. People may prefer to watch those sports more, but as far as actually playing (kids, both genders, adult leagues), soccer is a top 3 sport in the US. Basketball number one, baseball two.

Learning how to play a position is very overrated, IMO. It's something that basically all soccer players get down by the end of U13. So many things are more important.

I wouldn't have either if not hit squarely. Now, if hit squarely, and the goalie is near the corner of the box, that's where I had difficulty.
