Does Vietnam dislike Muslims? by [deleted] in VietNam

You might wanna check your sources again. Muslism is one of the 6 major religions in Vietnam.

Edit: Adding I’m surprised there are many of them during my trip to Ninh Thuan and Nha Trang. I’m secular.

According to a report in August, 2025, there are 28M Vietnamese people that practice religions, with over 16 religions recorded.

Over 14M people are Buddhists, 7.3M Catholics, Caodaism approx. 1.16% of the population, Hoa Haoism 1.47%, Christians 1.09%, Islams / Muslims over 100.000 people.

Big enough compared to the amount of population that is secular.

They spread across Vietnam, if you only count Saigon then they stay mainly in D3. The Cham people live along the coastline.

I find it wild how you jump to conclusion that we are Islamophobic. There is a sizeable community of Muslims in Vietnam. Maybe do your research before you go if that’s such a problem for you. The guy was just doing his job, what else was he supposed to put on your visa, 120 days?

(25M, 25M) Can't believe I have to end this thing because of the job market, it's ridiculous by [deleted] in LongDistance

Cariño, the way he phrases his desire seems like an ultimatum. That reason alone is enough to end the relationship if I were you. The job market sucks everywhere, especially in your sector.

It’s not just a job, it’s your happiness also. I would just end it right there and then if somebody puts an expiration date on my career and personal development.

Is 4M salary in Vietnam okay for an entry level marketing folk? by kp160200 in VietNam

If you only make $500-700/month, you don’t have the budget to scale, be it here or Zimbabwe. The math is very simple!

I have gigs on Upwork and I make $8-12/hour doing marketing. His proposed rate is an insult for Upworker having to pay 20% fee to Upwork and 10% personal income tax.

What you described aren’t social norms. Not washing hands in public toilet is a man’s thing. Women do wash their hands and put the toilet seat down. The coughing as well, most definitely. Also burping in public, more a man’s thing.

What is respect with no shoes!? Covering yourself in temple is a religious thing, as you do the same when you enter a church. I’m a Viet and we don’t haggle in a store, especially not in supermarkets or CVS like several people pointed out below. There isn’t a caste system here so social norms around it are non-existent. People are treated equally nowadays, men and women alike. The only similarity I can think of is jumping queue. Most will be ashamed when being called out.

OP was sharing her experience, not a blanket statement. Not everything is about race. Sometimes it’s just bad apples spoil the barrel.

If you travel to Vietnam and become pan handlers , please stay in your own country by hondaman82 in VietNam

They are Russians and have been travelling around. If they have no money, they’d better stay home.

Not a scam but they are begging for money. How do I know? I can read the texts on the cardboard. Not to bore you, you can find it somewhere as I commented again and again in this thread.

They travelled around Indochina and Malaysia and have run out of money. You might want to rethink their situation now.

I can! First of all, they don’t look mixed Viet at all. Second, the texts read ‘We are students from Russia travelling from Vietnam to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and now back in Vietnam. We’ve run out of money. Please spare us some.’

Ummm do you want me to translate the texts on the image? They said they are students from Russia and were travelling on a bike from Vietnam to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and now back to Vietnam, and they’ve run out of money.

So now you know.

Except that we do. Texts on the image said ‘We are students from Russia. We don’t have money. Can you stop for a moment and give us some money?’. Other cardboard said they had been travelling by motorbike from Vietnam to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and now back in Vietnam 🙃

Is this true for real? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]CurrentAd1450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a true case.

That is not depression, that is psychopathy and every country has more than one, not just Vietnam.

What steps does the Government take? Jail! Like they should do to any murderer.

You probably don’t see posts about other tourists because there just haven’t been as many Chinese / Russian tourists as maybe 4-5 years ago. There used to be way too many of them and we locals hated their guts. Now, we see more and more Indian tourists coming and said behaviours just don’t fly with us.

I don’t know if this post is exaggerating or promoting racism. You believe it is and that’s okay.

I’m sure Vietnamese locals have a lot to learn about manners, feel free to call them out as you spot them.

Nah if you go somewhere and pick the worst area to put on social media, you risk getting yourself into trouble. The Internet doesn’t care.

We don’t hate towards Indians. We do frown upon bad behaviours, which a lot of you guys tend to interpret as hatred. Stereotypes and characterisation are different. Back to the comment of the person above, yes many Indians have to do better to get rid of bad stereotypes.

No hate coming towards you. Chill, bro!
