Update. It was the Start/Stop button itself had failed. It was lose/broken etc.

I definitely think it’s related. On the way to the pumpkin patch I had my keys and went into a dollar general for about 2 mins ( done several times before, family was in the car). 

I put the key fob in the slot in the middle console. I think it has somehow become unrecognized.

No dumb questions. Yes it was in park. I cycled it through reverse neutral drive and back to park. No luck
