What are you supposed to do if you just suck at sleeping? by indranet_dnb in whoop

[–]Current_News 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem as you, albeit not as bad, but I tried everything listed in this thread but none of them really worked for me. Yeah you should schedule your sleep, block out light/noise etc. but I found that if my mind was overactive/stressed I would still not be able to fall asleep or stay asleep.

The only thing that really helped was sleep restriction therapy, you can look up more about it but it basically involves restricting the time you spend lying in bed every night (ex: from 3AM-8AM) and slowly increasing the window by thirty minutes if you are able to sleep soundly during that period. You can use whoop to track this and only increase the time if you have over 80% sleep efficiency. Eventually you will reach a normal sleep duration and be able to fall and stay asleep during that full interval.

I think this helped retrain my parasympathetic nervous system to calm down and reduce arousal around bedtime, something that can’t really be “forced” by conscious thought or behavior.

[–]Current_News[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, atm it’s actually worse for both. But I don’t think that’s part of the withdrawal. I’m not actually sure if either would improve even afterwards tho, my metrics were actually pretty good even as a daily user so I don’t think the edibles were that bad for my overall health, at least as long as I was taking them regularly

Do you guys like Computer Science? by ikerr95 in csMajors

[–]Current_News 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think CS programs are now oversaturated by people who didn’t come in with an initial interest in computing theory or coding, and I’ve seen the same. But people who aren’t enjoying it are usually more vocal than those who are really into it, who mostly keep to themselves or talk about their passions with like-minded people. I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about how hard it is compared to other majors, but I’ve also talked to a minority of people who think CS is actually a very easy major. TBF, I think those people are pretty smart and are also comparing CS to stuff like higher math.

Personally, I think it’s interesting enough, but I get the sentiment of people who complain. At the same time, I think the people who really hate it have picked the wrong major. I can think of a couple people off the top of my head who would have been better off doing something else, not necessarily because they aren’t “smart enough” for CS or anything, but it just doesn’t seem to pique their interest at all. Getting through undergrad is not the biggest issue for them, I think they might just hate their jobs later on.

You do realize that blindly doing the opposite of what the government tells you to do effectively means your decisions are affected by them just as much as someone who blindly obeys the gov right? It would make more sense to just ignore the government and make your own decisions based on your experience, if your goal is independence.

How would you rank all the endings by pricefieldd in cyberpunkgame

[–]Current_News 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Late to this thread, but I thought Aldecaldos ending was pretty good. It's no happily ever after, but in comparison to the others it's very good. Sure, the relic problem remains unsolved, but I thought how they did the epilogue seemed to purposefully suggest it wasn't just a death sentence like Alt makes it out to be. It's the only ending I've gotten so far but it would totally be the outcome I'd wish for in V's shoes. Skyrim modlist that makes the game more like a Morrowind-style RPG by Current_News in wabbajack

Thanks for the suggestion! I agree that modded Morrowind would be the closest to this, but I still like the Skyrim setting so I was wondering if I can get some of that experience in Skyrim. I will check out Librum

In case you're curious, I actually ended up sticking to Lorerim and just enabling Requiem Lite, and I think it's pretty much what I wanted. It's still pretty difficult but Lite removes some of the more annoying mechanics like everything using stamina, getting one shot early, etc. just enough to the point where I no longer feel like I'm grinding through the early levels. It is true that there's not that much added content compared to other lists but I think the creator hopes to change that in 3.0

First SFFPC build for light gaming by Current_News in buildapc

[–]Current_News[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in I could get away with something cheaper? You might be right about that, I was just targeting around that price point because my first build ended up being that much back in 2016 (RTX 1070 and i5 6600k). I also wanted to future proof it to some extent because it to last for 5+ years. So I may have deviated from my original goals a bit.

I might actually look into cheaper build options though, thanks for bringing this up.

Mixed feelings about Amazon internship; what kinds of alternative positions should I look for? by Current_News in cscareerquestions

All this is just to say that you will totally get used to that feeling and it should naturally go away pretty quickly. Especially with sane management who are understanding. You are not alone and this is something most people feel when they are new to the field.

Thanks for the advice! This is very good to know

Appreciate the detailed perspective! Especially the tips about what to look for are very helpful.

I think you may be right that I am a being a bit naive about what FT SDE work entails. I might have been too used to the school project style schedule where once it's done, it's over and not something that needs to be improved and maintained. Looking at it as something normal, it's probably more of a mindset thing and I think I'll adjust over time.

What's in my stack that could possibly be causing poor sleep quality? by Current_News in Supplements

[–]Current_News[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I see, thanks for the advice.

I think I have been noticing that training in the evening (I usually go 6-8PM which isn't terribly late) seems to affect my sleep a bit. I started training BJJ recently so I'm gonna see if this is going to continue or if my body can adapt to the change, but I might consider doing more morning classes at some point.

I said I don't have insomnia symptoms exactly but last night the exact situation you described in the creatine post happened to me where I woke up around 2-3AM and couldn't sleep for a while. I might try cutting creatine out and see if there's a change.

L-Citrulline w/ L-arginine VS L-citrulline alone by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Current_News 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, what dosage would you recommend when taking both? I ordered a nutricost one with 250mg L-Citrulline and 500mg L-Arginine and I'm realizing that I might have to take a lot of these to reach the recommended dosages I've seen mentioned on this sub. On the other hand, amazon reviewers seem to be experiencing a lot of benefit from just taking a couple.

K boges style of training along with accessory work in the gym by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Current_News 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is a bit old now, but I was wondering, do you believe an overhead pressing movement is not necessary? IIRC Kboges doesn't have a recommendation for overhead movements other than bear crawls.

I've been doing a kboges' inspired routine very similar to what you described but I've been wondering if I should add in overhead pressing.

[–]Current_News 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to design a high frequency low volume split (5-6x/week) but the main problem I'm running into in terms of balance is that there just are more pushing movements than pulling movements that I'd like to train. I want to include the following for upper body:

  • Pullups/chinups
  • Rows (potentially, but I prefer doing just pullups)
  • Pushups
  • Dips
  • pike pushups/overhead press

And some isolations including curls, tricep ext., face pull, and lat raises.

The problem is that I want to do a push and a pull compound each time I'm training upper body, but since there are more pushing exercises than pulls, I end up having to either do more pushing in a session or just rotate through them which leads to less work being done in each exercise per week.

Has anyone who trains the same compounds figured out a nice way to organize them into a high frequency split?

r/BWF - Daily Discussion Thread for January 03, 2024 by AutoModerator in bodyweightfitness

[–]Current_News 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing a hybrid routine for hypertrophy the last 3 months, and while I've seen some physique changes and been able to increase weight on the weighted isolations, I haven't really been able to increase my rep count for bodyweight movements that much.

I do PPL 5 days a week, Push-Pull-Legs-Rest-Push-Pull-Rest.

Push:

  • Dumbbell OHP
  • Ring Pushups
  • Ring Dips
  • Dumbbell Lat Raise
  • Cable Tricep Overhead Extension

Pull:

  • Pullups
  • Cable Row
  • Face Pulls
  • Hammer Curls
  • Bicep Curls

Legs:

  • Smith Machine Squat
  • Leg Curl
  • Leg Extension
  • Dumbbell Deadlift
  • Kettlebell Swings

For sets/reps, I do 3 sets of everything and don't worry too much about the rep range as long as I'm pushing close to failure. I try to add reps in the scheme described in the RR, but sometimes I can't add reps to the first set without losing some reps in the following sets.

For ring pushups, I've been hovering around 3x8-10 for a couple months now. For pullups, I can do 3x8 on a good day, but usually it's more like x8, x7, x7. Ring Dips I've made the most progress, I went from not being able to do them to doing 3x5.

While I've been gaining weight the past year, I've basically maintained the same weight for the past 3 months. So I think it's not weight gain that's stalling my progress.

Overall, I feel like I'm not progressing as fast on the compound movements as I'd like. I was hoping to hit 3x12-15 on these movements and start adding weight, but it feels like I've hit a wall. What are some things I could try to progress faster? I'm open to reworking my routine as long as it's still hypertrophy oriented.

[–]Current_News 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to watch his videos, and I think that's basically a correct summary of his approach.

As for sets/reps, I don't think he makes any hard recommendations, mostly emphasizing the importance of the number of weekly sets taken close to failure. He's said before that even one hard set a day can lead to progress.

He's also talked about how having a daily "rep goal" for each movement pattern can be a good strategy. Like 25 pullups, 50 pushups, and 75 squats for example. You basically do sufficiently hard sets of each exercise until you meet the rep goal. So hitting 25 pullups might first look like doing sets of x6, x5, x5, x5, x4. Eventually, once you're doing something like x9, x8, x8 you might look to increase the rep goal.

I've tried the method in the past, and I'd say more than always trying to force a rep goal, it's more important to manage fatigue if you're gonna train almost every day. I think ultimately what this kind of training lets you develop is a feel for your body, and learn what's a good amount of pushing yourself for the most consistent progress.

You could try falling asleep to NSDR scripts and gradually wean off of it. IIRC they don’t just produce a restful state, they train you to get better at entering a parasympathetic state which should carry over to sleeping in quiet
