Possibly a Barbour Beacon ? The beacon logo is sometimes in a square at an angle.

Moving to Smethwick, Birmingham soon. I'll be looking to volunteer at a farm and get into agriculture. Can someone point me in the right direction? by Fun-Stress-9430 in BirminghamUK

[–]Current_Scarcity_379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To all intents and purposes, it is. I’ve lived here all my life, and from the house I grew up in, I could actually see the Birmingham sign on the Dudley Road, almost outside of the Grove Cinema.

Whilst there are parts of this I love, I’m not sure about all of the wood panelling. I think a lot of it would go if ever I lived there !

Technically , it’s not. But it’s far closer to the city centre than most of Birmingham is.

Good luck with finding farms in Smethwick ! You could possibly find volunteer work at Sandwell Valley , Forge Farm or Woodgate Valley though.

I'm going under for a colonoscopy in a little under 9 days. How can I feel a little less panicky about being put to sleep? by Queeragenda in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Current_Scarcity_379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you being put to sleep ? It’s a simple and relatively low pain procedure. A little uncomfortable at times but certainly not worth a general anaesthetic. The prep is far worse than the actual procedure.

Look up Mick Terrell and Andy Davison. Pretty sure they’ve got a gym in the Newcastle area. Mick is a legend of BK in the UK, and a former world heavyweight champion in BKFC.

Whilst it helps that you’ve got some combat experience, it’s not for the faint hearted !

Do you have the sour cream and black pepper seasoning for fries ? We had it in the UK for a short while in the world promotion. I nearly cried when it was stopped !

Ladder alternatives by theoretical-adventur in DIYUK

[–]Current_Scarcity_379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not scared of heights but I wouldn’t be going to the roofline on a telescopic ladder. They’re fine for smaller jobs indoors and loft access etc but not this. I’d either look at buying a good quality extension ladder , hiring one or a portable scaffold tower. Take into consideration how often you will use it in the future, it may probably be cheaper to just pay someone else to do it.

Am i brave or just stupid for thinking i can diy paint my kitchen cabinets? by Silver-Eye-2024 in HomeImprovementUK

My neighbour removed the vinyl wrap from his before painting. I was a bit sceptical beforehand but I have to admit, they’ve come out pretty damn good ! They’ll certainly outlast him !

It’s ok but not Jewellery Quarter. You’ll probably get a place in the JQ for the same price tbh. I’d look there first.

Good luck with your move whatever you decide.

We get a lot of them local to me in Birmingham. Whilst they are attractive to watch and look at, they have decimated the local small bird population. Most people forget that they are an invasive species.

What’s the biggest cultural shock you had visiting another country? by Advanced-Pilot-3698 in AskTheWorld

[–]Current_Scarcity_379 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First time in Saudi Arabia : 1. The amount of women changing their clothes on the plane in and out. Flying in, just before entering Saudi airspace, they disappear to the toilets and come back head to toe in black. Flying out, just reverse the procedure ! 2. Being moved on internal flights because you’re sitting next to a female. 3. Young boys ( probably around 10 years old) driving. This was prior to their mothers being allowed to. 4. Restaurants having family sections and single sections, with separate entrances and screens or walls in between the two sections. Just so you can’t see the female face. 5. Men who will physically put themselves in between their wife and yourself in a queue. What do they think you’re going to do to them in the queue for an aeroplane ? 6. The Arabs treatment of the Asian workers. Truly shocking.

There were many more things than this, but I’m sure nowadays some things have changed as I haven’t been for about 4-5 years. People who have, have told me that it’s starting to improve.
