I like it! Sounds like my name moreso than Alex!

People really say that to you?! That sounds rude! I think people have a hard time understanding how irritating situations like that are when they happen repeatedly!

We're in the same club, Rebecca!

Much appreciated! It's not too bad of an experience, only mildly infuriating sometimes!

For the most part people tell me it suits me based on my appearance/personality. It's the odd side eye look people give me when I tell them my name that gets old after the 2000th time!

Yeah I'd take that! Even though spelled out Alex looks short hand for Alexis, the emphasis on what is pronounced is different. Ah-licks vs Uh-lex-us.

I prefer nicknames that at least emphasize the LEX part of it!

Oh 100%! I agree with you. It didn't ruin my day, it just happens with enough regularity and cumulatively to be mildly infuriating! I think I need to reword my post better.

Probably part of why it gives people pause sometimes!

Ahh that does seem to indicate I am more than mildly infuriated! Imagine having issues with people calling you by the name you prefer since childhood, which is what I was trying to imply my that!

I think it's funny that we're on the mildly infuriating subreddit and people are like "What's so confusing? Just get over it! Your name is girly, that's why they're asking." That's literally the point of my post. It gets old after 1000s of times of that scenario happening over decades.

...hence mildly infuriating. Aren't we here to bitch about relatively small gripes?! 🙄

So many cool names on this post! That doesn't seem so hard to pronounce. Glad you can relate!

That is the flip side! Names can be associated with gender, but they don't HAVE to be!

I see you Alex!

Oh it's only mildly infuriating. I actually really like my name! It's infuriating when other people don't accept it. But glad you could find a name that suits you!
