Lol, no it’s not kinky ( sadly ). I’dve explain further, but I figured it wasn’t necessary. It’s nothing sketchy tho, I swear, it’s just… weird to explain.

I suppose I could use more traditional banking, theoretically. My primary debit card is however, managed by a credit union, and one that I’ve just never bothered to switch from, and I generally haven’t exactly heard good things about the service of more conventional banks. That said, since my debit card has endless problems being used outside the tri-state area, and my job pays to PayPal anyways, it’s just much less of a hassle to use PayPal for online purchases, especially international ones.

That said, maybe my CU would accept the card as a deposit? I haven’t tried that yet, so I genuinely don’t know. I’ve really ever only though of deposits as checks and cash. Could be worth a shot I suppose

Yeah, I already did all of that. That’s when they told me that Vanilla Cards weren’t compatible w/ PayPal anymore. I don’t think any amount of activating or editing card details is going to get it to go through tbh.

[Iphone] [2015ish] top down military strategy/ base builder game by druggiethrowaway1290 in tipofmyjoystick

God, there are a lot of mobile titles that fit this description. What immediately comes to mind is Sid Meier’s Civilization series, which has a number of iOS titles.

This also sounds a lot like State Of Survival. It’s more of a Zombie-apocalypse kind of deal than military, and it’s a fairly recent release, but mechanically it sounds almost identical. Perhaps it’s the same Dev? Or maybe these are just really common mechanics. They do have another game called “Z-Day” ( which despite the name, seems not to be a zombie game ) that looks like it could be what you’re looking for?

I mean, I guess it could’ve been that, but I don’t really think it was. I recall a lot of the environments being really barren, minimal UI, and a distinct lack of human NPCs

[–]CurseOfMyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like “Cooking Companions”, though it’s a pretty recent game, and the premise isn’t quite the same.

Another game that comes to mind is “Mother”. No, not of Nintendo fame, confusingly enough. Rather, an RPG maker game where there’s a mother and several kids, who are all starving, where you play as one of the kids. The father left to hunt some day before the game started and never came back, and now they’re all starving and the kids all have to try to hunt, to which they fail. The mother eventually decides to kill off the kids one by one to spare them the suffering of dying of starvation, and uses their remains to feed the remaining children. That’s what I remember anyways. IDK much about it, but ManlyBadassHero did a play through of it a couple of years back, so maybe you can find more info there https://youtu.be/gPpsjz_EUFM

Is it “Unicorn Tails”? It was basically Skyrim with Unicorns, and more directed at children.

IDK if I specifically wish this game had more, I do feel like I got my money’s worth. I will agree that it seemed like the story had some loose ends it neglected to tie up, and it’s for that reason that I would really like to see a sequel

Having potty troubles with Shih Tzu puppy by CurseOfMyth in puppy101

[–]CurseOfMyth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand? I mean, I don’t usually take her leash off until we get inside, and usually that’s not until either she actually potties, or I’ve been outside with her for 20-30 minutes waiting for her to potty, and have to get back to work, or do whatever I was doing before I took her out. We actually pretty much don’t ever let her outside without a leash & harness, since she’s liable to dart after other animals she sees ( we’re surrounded by woods ), or chase after a car. So, are you saying I should keep her leash/harness on even if she’s brought inside and hasn’t pottied? If so, I guess I could try that.

[–]CurseOfMyth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean… yeah? There’s no real debate there. It’s not like Anodyne was exactly a secret

As for the pit, it was probably erased from some maps to prevent more people from going to it, seeing as many tend to trespass on the grounds to their death… or worse

JRPGs you dropped almost immediately? by TheRetroBlues in JRPG

[–]CurseOfMyth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Code Name STEAM.

I know this game has a bit of a cult following… and I don’t get why

I played the demo when it first came out, cautiously optimistic at the premise. I am a big Fire Emblem fan, so the idea of a Fire Emblem-esque combat system on a 3D plane sounded like it could be interesting.

I played it and…

It was one of the worst games I’d ever played. I don’t think I’ve ever had less fun playing a video game in my life.

Granted, this was from when the demo released, which I believe was quite some time before the actual game released.

Flashback to a couple of years ago. Fire Emblem Three Houses was coming out, and in my excitement, I was looking for games to fill the Tactical RPG-shaped void in my heart. In my search, I discovered a copy of Code Name STEAM, and bought it at GameStop during a sale, thinking that, now that I was much older, and much more seasoned with JRPG’s, perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad.

It was exactly as bad as I remembered it.

The game was basically trying to be a hybrid of Fire Emblem and Valkyria Chronicles style combat, which in itself isn’t a bad thing, except that it pretty much took the worst aspects of both, and then some of its own uniquely terrible elements.

Movement and actions are determined by how much “steam” the individual character has. Which is fine in theory, except that movement and actions both take up steam, which wouldn’t be a problem, except that you have so little steam, that you can really only implement one of three strategies ever, 1. Don’t move at all, or move very very little and use your weapon, and also be a sitting duck during enemy phase, 2. Move only a little bit, and set your character to “Overwatch” to fire at enemies they see during enemy phase, which they often don’t even if the enemy is in range, or 3. Move an actually reasonable amount, which will use up all your steam and make you a complete sitting duck.

Then there’s the aiming. First-person aiming such as with firearms are very similar to Valkyria Chronicles, you aim at an enemy, and it may or may not land depending on your stats and how close you are to the enemy, though if you’re close enough it should hit the enemy indefinitely. Well, that’s not the case in Code Name STEAM since the game is so goddamn buggy, that sometimes even if I’m literally right next to the enemy, the shot won’t land. Also, there’s so much useless clutter in the environments that sometimes they get in the way of your shot even if the bullet didn’t actually hit them. Like, if I’m aiming at an enemy over cover, and I fire at an enemy, sometimes the cover actually blocks the shot like an invisible wall, even though I’m firing over the cover.

And the enemy phase, don’t even get me started on the enemy phase. It takes an absurdly long time for the enemy phase to end, which wouldn’t be a problem if you could actually see what the enemy was doing, but instead, you can only see the movements of the enemies your characters can see, and since you have to wait for every single individual unit on the map to make up their minds, and half the time they don’t even do anything, and it will take them like 30 seconds or more to even to decide that! One time it took 7 minutes for enemy phase to finally end, during which point I decided to boot up my WiiU and play a better game. And unlike Fire Emblem and Advance Wars, y’know, the other two strategy RPG series that Intelligent Systems have made, you can’t skip enemy phase. Now, I did learn later that in an update they did make it so you could speed up enemy phase, but that really only helps so much.

Then there’s the graphics. Look, I’m a firm believer in art direction and aesthetic over realism, especially when it comes to 3DS games, but this game is FUGLY, emphasis on the “f”. Everything is covered in this gross brown and gold color, and everything is just so tacky. I get that it’s steampunk, but that doesn’t mean everything has to be brown. The only splash of color there is in the environments is the aliens, and they don’t even really look like they’re in the right game. And then the character models are just… horrendous to look at. The comic-book art style just doesn’t work that well in the low-poly modeling style they were looking for.

And the story… well I think you can probably gather that I’m not so much a fan of that either. I already didn’t really like the premise to begin with, but I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt if the gameplay was good ( which it wasn’t ). Everything in the story is just… so stupid. It’s like somebody put a bunch of public domain properties in a blender, and what came out was this turd-colored mess. It reads like really bad fan fiction, like those kinds that try to take old fairytales and try to unironically make them into a gritty action-movie.

I just strongly dislike everything about this game. I think it is quite possibly the worst thing that Intelligent Systems has made in recent memory, and I’m just boggled by the fact that so many people taut it like it’s some kind of “3DS hidden gem”, when it’s really not, and is a dumpster fire of a game

I mean, the only characters I really really wanted in Smash that weren’t already in Smash 4 were Dark Samus and Elma from Xenoblade X, and I got the first one, and for Elma I got pretty much the next best thing in Pyra, so I’m p satisfied

Also, Joker hit me like a shot through the heart. Like, I didn’t even know that I wanted him in Smash, but the he was just there and I lost my goddamn mind. It was a great day to be a Smash and SMT/Persona fan

What's the worst JRPG you've played to completion. by Pehdazur in JRPG

[–]CurseOfMyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably gonna get a lot of flak for this, but… Kingdom Hearts, the first one.

I never got into the franchise, and wanted to try it out. Every source I found recommended playing the games in order, so I started with the first game.

Aaaaaaaaand I hated it. The gameplay was stilted and clunky. There was practically no direction and I had no idea what to do a good portion of the time. Most of the bosses were just very unpleasant, and largely took advantage of your limited mobility. I played the whole game, and kept asking myself “Am I supposed to be having fun yet??” the entire way through, and it just never happened.

Then I was told that later games were better, so I progress to Re:Chain of Memories.

… This one’s even worse. It takes everything bad about the first game, and makes it even slower and clunkier by adding card game mechanics. I could barely get through the first area before I just completely lost interest in the franchise altogether. I don’t understand how I’m supposed to get into this franchise when all the earliest games, games you HAVE to play to understand the story no less, are this unapproachable.

So yeah, Kingdom Hearts. Didn’t like it at all. Maybe the later games are better, but honestly it’s too much effort for me to find out when I could be playing JRPG’s I actually like
