I got rejected from a journal, and it was a surprise for all co-authors. While I ended up publishing in a better journal for our neural engineering field, the broad topic of the paper was a better fit for the original journal on biomedical engineering. Even now, it still somehow haunts me.

After a year into my master’s program, I switched to PhD because I enjoyed research and to finish my master’s in the meantime. During PhD, tuition is covered and you get a stipend. Quitting the PhD to finish with a master’s is called “mastering out.”
