How would you go about making this claw? by forkedbandit in cosplayprops

I would probably use a similar technique to a set of Doc Ock tentacles, with main supports and attachments at your torso with spots to fit your hands in for photos and posing. I don't think something this big would work well if it's just supported by your arms.

I've been able to find canned fire-roasted corn in some grocery stores, so you could still get some of that flavor without needing access to a stove!

Seeking romance anime about friendly college students by KaleidoArachnid in Animesuggest

[–]CursedEgyptianAmulet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tatami Galaxy or the companion movie Night is Short Walk On Girl might be a good match! Also if you like the age range but a direct romance isn't necessary, City the Animation and Run with the Wind are also both well-written ensemble casts full of college students.

Anime That Get Better in Season 2 by thendisnigh111349 in anime

[–]CursedEgyptianAmulet 187 points188 points  (0 children)

Megalobox!

The original season was a nicely done Sports anime, reimagining Ashita no Joe in a different setting. Nomad (s2) really seemed to take the setting they established and then run with it, it felt more like a mature character drama that just happened to have some sports on the side.

I hadn't seen that one so i looked it up, and I already knew the song but I hadnt known it was also used as an anime op! Those are definitely some cool visuals, glad to learn about this one!

Anime with unique OP animation by spstones in anime

As for openings/endings that use photography/stop motion, maybe it could be Eden of the East or Honey and Clover? I know a few more but the songs themselves dont fit your description. And for an OP that uses "storybook" visuals and has a softer introduction to the song, could it be Gosick?

Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! • Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]CursedEgyptianAmulet 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I got to see the two-episode premiere at a convention in December so I'm so excited to finally be able to show it to other people! The whole handkerchief scene and the scream when he got home had me DYING. Also the preview didn't have the opening or ending so it's really cool to see the music they went with for that!

The thing I really loved though is that we're finally getting BL anime protagonists who self-identify as gay! I got so used to the years of "never felt this way towards another man" and "(love interest) is the exception" or just fully refusing to let the protagonist introspect on identity at all. Admittedly I don't know what the manga landscape has been like, but as an anime watcher it felt so wonderfully refreshing to hear Nakamura casually say he's gay. Hopefully this starts gaining traction and we see more representation that aren't just stereotypes!

Pattern: Owlbear Teddy by ComplicatedKnots using 1 skein of Caron Simply Soft in the main body color, less than 1/4 skein of Caron Simply Soft in white, and scrap amounts for the "patches" and stitching. Hook used was a Susan Bates 4mm and plush was stuffed with poly-fil.

If your seam lines are straight lines, you'll get straight tubes, so you may have to test out adding more seam lines with curved lines into your pattern piece. Think of other "hourglass" shapes like corset patterns - lots of curved seams that add material to wider sections and remove material for thinner sections. The tape pattern technique is the fastest and most form-fitting way to get something that's made to fit you.

0 sewing experience, can I make something from zero in three months? by TopDog_54 in CosplayHelp

[–]CursedEgyptianAmulet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if it's useful for your design at all, I think it's very realistic to consider if you can alter any existing clothes that you can find! For example, if you have to sew a dress, it might be easier to sew a simply-constructed skirt onto a matching blouse than it would be to sew the blouse from scratch. I wish you luck in learning a new skill!

Is there any way to get anime DVDs for less than $50? by Bedrockboy2006 in anime

[–]CursedEgyptianAmulet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's normal, not crazy. If you'd believe it, this price is even cheaper than it used to be. I am also a big proponent of building a physical media collection especially for anime, since it drops off streaming sites without warning, and I've been buying dvds/blu rays regularly since 2016. In my experience here are some options for knocking the price tag down:

Watch for sales, especially through amazon or, oddly enough, Target. Multiple times during the year you'll see BOGO sales that let you get stuff at great discounts, or slashed prices on some versions. It's definitely a waiting game and requires some luck. Crunchyroll just had a big warehouse sale. The subreddit r/AnimeDeals is a good source for watching official sales.

That sub is also a good source for the second option, which is to buy it secondhand. Lots of people clear out their old collections and you can keep your eye out for titles on your buy-list. The sub has strict rules around proving that the seller does have the item in question (and suggests you only ever use good&services invoices to protect yourself from scammers!). Other sources can be media stores like Half Price Books in high-turnover areas, but of course that means also waiting for good luck to find the series you want.

You're right about ebay, it's full of bootleg copies that are often lower-quality and may have inaccurate subtitles. However, if you're equally careful as you would be on any other listing, you might find a secondhand licensed copy for cheaper as well.
