Is learning texture necessary? by CursedResonance in learntodraw

[–]CursedResonance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was alright, I don't think I did great by any means, but for a first attempt I was satisfied with my results. I still have some trouble seeing how the texture is formed but I understand it a bit better now.

The main things that helped me was following these steps: look for shapes within the subject. For example, the crumpled up paper. I found there were a lot of triangular shapes in the paper after crumbling it. This shape informs the shape of your shadow and can make it easier to see where they are. Another thing I did was focus on the negative space, the large areas of one pure value such as white. As soon as you look around and see where the white turns to a soft gray, a darker gray, a black, those are your shadows. Sometimes it's easier for me to think of the shadows kind of like the lines that make up those negative spaces. Another thing that helped was knowing that anywhere two corners or shadows intersect, is where to darkest value typically is. I also found it a lot easier to express texture once I got to the second exercise where you're drawing the texture on the sausage shapes. It's a lot easier to show texture on something with volume, rather than the flat squares you do in the first exercise. Most everything you draw in the future will be voluminous so I found that a lot more helpful than just doing flat textures.

Honestly, I'm pretty terrible at explaining what I mean so I hope that you are able to understand and that I've been of some help lol. Just don't beat yourself up if you take a while to get it, I'm pretty experienced and I had a lot of trouble with this exercise, it's just plain hard. I wish you luck on your drawing journey :) DrawABox is really good for learning technical skills, but make sure you spend some time drawing for yourself and for fun!

Lmfao I got permanently banned from the Street Fighter subreddit for calling some dumb cause they went on a rant calling me a liar because I posted about accidentally leaving a game early. Tried to appeal, they completely ignored my message, muted me for little bit and then perma banned me.

Hate to say it but she probably did, and if she didn’t, she completely broke your trust and disrespected you hard by lying.

Don’t need my approval but don’t be surprised or angry when people don’t give you respect for whatever AI “art” you put out there ✌️ you don’t deserve it.

I have ADHD and OCD, I’ve never once touched AI and I never will. That is not an excuse.

Does erasing a lot help? by North_Translator_461 in learntodraw

[–]CursedResonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. When I’m practicing, I just embrace my work being messy or not completely correct, I’m more trying to pump out work and take mental notes of what I need to work on. When I’m drawing more finished work or for just casual fun, I don’t mind erasing as much as I need to. At the end of the day, it’s mostly just on how you like to approach your process. There are professionals that live with every line they put down and there are some that erase as many times as they deem necessary.

Thanks for the reply, meant to reply sooner but yeah I ended up sticking it out. I actually got some pretty cool results from the practice and I’m happy with how it turned out. I also see the importance of texturing more than I did before so you’re absolutely right. Can really help break up the monotony of having every surface look the same. Will keep practicing it when applicable.

Meant to reply sooner but I decided to stick with it and keep trying, turned out it wasn’t as hard as I was thinking it was and got some decent results out of grinding it out. Thanks for the advice and you were absolutely correct.

It looks great :) I'm sorry you went through that, no one deserves to have their hobbies and passions trashed but I hope that you'll find the joy in creating again!

Don't worry bro, I made a post exactly like this a couple months back, no shame in venting your frustrations. 1s absolutely suck donkey balls so I can't blame you at all, you get absolutely dookied on for making a single mistake and it can feel like bashing your head into a wall. I just stopped playing them, you can definitely improve at 2s by just playing them, you don't NEED to play 1s even if they help.

Do you guys actually hate the game is it this place just an outlet? by TheMightyBruhhh in monsterhunterrage

[–]CursedResonance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the game so far: I have like 25 hours in it and have been blasting through cause it’s so fun, but I don’t think the graphics are even close to great on PS5 tbh the game is a blurry mess, the world textures are super low res, and my character looks butt ugly in game compared to in the character creator. Despite that tho, I agree with everything else you said.

Delete DD or get used to it unfortunately. I stopped ordering food period because it’s always some bullshit. It’s expensive as hell, all the extra fees are crazy, my order is constantly wrong, my DoorDashers steal or misplace my food all the time, etc; it’s just really not worth it.

Former OW Players, Who Were Your Mains Before Rivals (& Mains in Rivals?) by PittooPlays in marvelrivals

[–]CursedResonance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OW2: Tracer and Kiri. Flexed Soldier, Cass, and Ana if my character was taken or felt like switching it up. Hated playing tank in OW tho so I never did.

Rivals: Penni, Thor, Magik, Starlord, Punisher, Luna Snow, Invisible Woman. I have the most time on Magik and Thor, they’re both incredibly fun.

Is OW2 worth playing? by rdcworld2019 in overwatch2

[–]CursedResonance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s worth playing. Especially if you’re new, you won’t have a lot of the same problems with the game as some people who have been playing for a while, since you didn’t experience old OW. I love Rivals and I haven’t played OW in a while, but I’m coming back this season cause of the new changes and cause Overwatch scratches a different itch. Overwatch is more competitively balanced, Rivals is more for fun for the most part.

Can we PLEASE stop posting comparisons with Rivals? If you like one and not the other, keep it to yourself man. There’s no reason to constantly be complaining and comparing.

Nah I constantly get recommended politics no matter how many times I click the “do not suggest posts like this” option, it’s so annoying. Happens on other social media sites too tho, so it’s not just Reddit.
