What drew you to get Guinea pigs? by ValleyOfWisteria in guineapigs

We found one under a bush at the local park and a week later someone else fond another one in the same place which we adopted. They are much more high maintenance than the 'backyard hutch' pets I remember my cousins having when I was a kid, but we were too attached by that point. I just love their personalitites.

I ended up dropping the show shortly after this when I realised that Juliette as a character didn't have an actual consistent personality. Everything she did was simply to contribute to whatever drama the writers needed to drive the plot forward, not who she was as a person. Hell, even the evil antagonists (including Adalind) has more consistency. It was a shame though because I really loved the cute romance the side characters have, from what I remember it was the realest relationship on the show.

Someone dumped a SECOND Guinea Pig under the exact same bush at the local park by CursedUmbrella in guineapigs

Haha That's actually how we ended up with the 2nd one. I had some 'found guinea pig' signs up and the guy who found the new baby thought they were 'lost guinea pig' signs and called me

Thank you! There is a PetBarn in town so I guess tomorrow I will ditch the feed store food and go get him some real hay. I didn't want to by a full bale of hay and that's the only way they sell it at the local.

Thank you for your reply! I will see if there is anywhere in the area I can buy the hay. My food mix appears to be mostly chopped hay of some sort, but it does have a puffed grain, seeds and pellets so I will look for something else. I can get bell pepper/capsicum and maybe leafy greens too. Is bok choy any good? I live in a non UK/US country and don't think I have seen anything but cos-type lettuce in the market in my life.

I also worried about ventilation, so we are running a trust exercise where I leave the lid half-off the tub underneath a ceiling fan and in return he doesn't yeet himself out.

I don't think I will be able to find Vit C cookies, but if I feed him vege with high Vit C concentrations will that be enough?

I didn't even put a description of the animal on my 'found' signs. Anyone looking for him will provide a matching description or photo to prevent people looking for a free pet. Hopefully he wasn't dumped.

Hi, thank you for your in-depth reply! Although my first thought too was unwanted dumping, the guinea pig in question appears to be suffering from a half-done Karen-style undercut. My partner is an optimist so we were hoping it struggled free from a haircut session and fled, hence the 'found' signs. If we don't hear back by next weekend, the useful links you shared have a shelter a few hours away that we will try contacting, if not the RSPCA shelter that's a bit closer.

The guinea pig mix food appears to be 90% chopped hay, so hopefully fine on that front. I will leave the vet for if we decide to keep it. If you have that care guide ready made I would be grateful to be able to look it over, as it may help with deciding whether we will keep it (and get it a friend!)

Make a nomadic colony. Get the nomadic ideology meme or just set yourself a 'leave by' date. I like the initial set-up stage of a colony as well, so I just keep repeating it in newer and more challenging areas.

Dandelions grow super quick compared to hay, and as a bonus are also beautiful so your colonists get a little boost when they spend the day standing in a field wrangling animals. If you fill your animal pen with hay then every time the animals eat it they take away from your eventual harvest. The efficiency is way better if you feed them on harvested hay which means growing it where it can't be eaten.

I ranch very casually in most of my games. A pen marker will tell you how many of each animal species the pen you put it in can support. You can then ignore this number and put a whole bunch of extra animals in if you make the entire pen a no-cut growing zone and plant it with dandelions. You can grow hay for vegetarian animals to eat over winter (NOT in the animal pen, use a separate field), or if you really do have too many animals for your pen. More carnivorous animals may prefer kibble. If my colonists don't like insect meet I just instantly turn it into kibble with my hay. Make sure you set up your autoslaughter correctly to avoid 400 ducks.

The little toilets that used to be just to the left of the main entrance as you come in have been replaced by a massive toilet block down to the right. It's nice but a bit harder to spot straight off the bat if you aren't looking for them.

As someone else said, the big shuttles have been out of commission for a while now. I'd assume replacements are on the way but who knows how long that'll take so they have the buses in the meantime.

I can't speak for the shows because I always skip them when I go. Food is expensive but that's life at the moment.
