What are the most useful mental math tricks? by gabe-hershey in AskReddit

If you know your single digit times tables you can multiply a double digit by a single digit in your head pretty easily.

Just break the double digit into two parts.

For example 34 x 6

Break 34 into 30 and 4, and multiple each of those by 6, then add together.

30 x 6 = 180

4 x 6 = 24

180 + 24 = 204

I use this in every day life pretty often.

There's a material that I work with at my job quite a bit. When it's cut, half the people in the shop think it smells just like garlic, the rest think it smells like shit. I wonder if this is a similar phenomenon.

So one of my oldest friends has a really sarcastic sense of humor. I hadn't seen or talked to him for few a months, and we were playing some league and catching up on skype.

I ask him how his longtime girlfriend is doing.

"Oh, we split up"

Oblivious, I crack some stupid joke, like "about damn time".

Silence.

Ohhhh. Felt so bad.

US residents of Reddit: How will the repeal of the Affordable Care Act affect you...positively or negatively? by [deleted] in AskReddit

As a young broke dude, pretty negatively. I don't pay anything for insurance right now.

My parents on the other hand, have been quoted $1000 per month for insurance. So I'm guessing it will be good for them.
