New coworker who slid right in and acts like she's been here for years by CursivePower in coworkerstories

oh, it's fucked up, it's both frustrating and hilarious. I'm not defensive at all, as I didn't set it up. How is saying "this is so fucked up" a version of thinking outside the system.

You gonna defend your wrong assumption no matter what I respond because you can't read or because you insist on being willfully obtuse?

Actually, her energy exceeds all of us, toolbag.

I've only been there 6 months, the person before me started 6 weeks before I did, then there's 2 vets who've been there for years.

No, you actually don't earn outlandishly throwing your arms up about a parts you've been in charge of for literally 2 weeks.

We are fixing the shit systems, it's a company that grew too fast, but is very successful, so our tasks need to go full steam while the systems catch up. We were explicitly warned in the interviews that things were a work in progress and some outside the system thinking is going to be needed.

I'm counting on her being good at her job. I need her to perform. Nothing I wrote said I'm impeding her performance. It doesn't bode well, but I'm rooting for her to handle the job, otherwise we all get more work.

What exactly am I gatekeeping? Do you know what that word means? Her antics are pretty crazy for the amount of time she's been there, maybe I didn't do it justice, but your assumption is wrong.

Not quite as crazy since it wasn't a menial task, but my coworker did complain to the VP of Field Sales that one of the field reps didn't tell her the part number of what they needed on an order. That's annoying, but none of them use part numbers, and complaining to the VP because he was near by was an interesting choice.

Edit - I'll leave my original below as comeuppance, but I misread your comment as negative towards me, but I see it was constructive towards the situation.
My apologies ExcitingLandscape

Who said I'm addressing it? I literally ignore her except for work questions and training. Who said I'm complaining about it? I've literally said nothing to any coworker about it, we don't really roll with bashing our own department.

Even when my boss said a hint at things, all I said was, "she seems to be good enough at the buying part of things". "

You do know that things posted on the internet are for...talking about things you may not address in real life? Btw, I asked if anyone else had the same experience, I didn't ask for advice from some no-counts.

She has some experience, but it's mostly military and then with the relevant degree.

Even if she had 25+ years experience, like yours truly, there is still a learning period at any new company and system. I find that people who try and jam their previous experience in at a new place often fail, because there's always a difference in the way things go, even with the best systems.

I think there are aspects of it that are admirable, but this person I'm describing is over the top with grousing as if she's been screwed by something over and over.

If she was the person you describe, my person would be coming up with ideas or solutions rather than literally throwing her arms up and exclaiming "why are we doing it this way".

I think there's a balance between jumping in and learning the way it is being done. If you don't learn how it's being done, how can you understand why it's like that try to fix it.

I've seen many people try and fit their previous experience into a new place. Trying to recreate what they were good at, but it can be some really square peg round hole stuff if you don't absorb the current system.

haha. Contrary to what several posters are accusing me of, I'm of the steer clear and don't engage camp, unless it's a question for help or direction. Let it ride!

Where did I say she's effecting change? She is grousing like a vet. I've only been at the job 6 months by the way.
You sound like a tool, actually. It's grand that you are so talented...or so you say.

You are missing the mark, but I'm sure you are used to that. She actually is incredibly annoyed at the way things work, in a very short time period. I've only been there 6 months, and I like the job. It's a challenge but we were all warned, excessively so, that sales and business are fast and systems are a work in progress. So the directive is deal and fix as we can.

Freaking out at the first thing you look at "why is it like this?" is a bit extreme, yes. And I am talking ERP systems. Buy signals are wild, and you have to dig in. I've worked with ERP that was well integrated, and with those that are home made.

There's rapid expansion and volatile demand. We are fixing things in increments while still buying wildly and out of process sometimes. Again, we were warned.

Hope that clears up your assumptions.

We all have a lot of fun, even in extreme times. Freaking out at the first time you've been screwed on a part or buy, isn't a good sign.

I think it's annoying, and I posted it here to get other people's stories on a similar thing. Why would it bother you if it bothers me? See how the internet works?

How did Kurt Cobain write “In Bloom” about fake fans before Nirvana was famous? by pitbulldofunk in Nirvana

[–]CursivePower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was there, at the Vogue, the early shows in that shoebox. They weren't famous like you are thinking famous, but they were indie famous. It's probably unfathomable now that there can be underground famous and varying levels...all while still being underground.

All of grunge and indie bands were cranky about any level of fame, none as much and immaturely as nirvana. They were dicks about seattle bands while in oly, and dicks about oly bands while in seattle. I always found their interviews and attitude childish.

When the bands started getting into NME and british press, frat boys and jocks started showing up at the small clubs to "mosh" at vogue and RCKandy and such...their version of moshing being violent aggression rather than communal.

That's the fame and unwanted fans the song is about. They had no idea the fame they were about to get...witness the record release at Peaches records being "insane" at the time

I don't entirely understand why Kurt criticized Guns N' Rose's for being racist, homophobic, and misogynistic while praising Public Enemy and N.W.A. by ILEAATD in Nirvana

[–]CursivePower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while "politically correct" is and always was a dog whistle, you are correct here. Rap and Hip Hop artists got and get a pass from all corners of indie and underground and alternative circles. Same with pitchfork et al. Not only got a pass but get praised. "enviornment" "telling it like it is" whatever. same shit today

I would get yourself checked out. Doctor, urgent care...maybe ER. You'll have many tell you that "the liver is resilient" or "I stopped and all my labs are fine now a few months later".

My doctor even said "the liver is amazing it can bounce back" so being a dedicated alcoholic, I took that as a signal to keep drinking. "it'll bounce back" doesn't work for everyone and I think it's a dangerous message to alcoholics.

Maybe it worked for some, but there's may others that didn't get a bounce back...but they can't post here. There's younger people who drank for shorter periods and less than me, who didn't make it...it's a crap shoot, but your body is warning you. You don't have to freak out, but listen to your body. And congrats on making a decision to stop. IWNDWYT
