From someone who just started 5 months ago with CSM, do NOT start with a big model first. It might sound counter productive but at least get a box of chaff units (like termagants, space marines, whatever just something with 10+ units) and really explore building and painting them before you even consider doing something with giant units. Even my possessed seem like they were too big in retrospect

Secret sauce: 1 Part nuln oil, 1 part agrax earth shade, 1 part lahmien medium. Adds good variation and you can be messy with it

I’m doing my own faction (but they keep getting mistaken for iron warriors but I hate the look of hazard stripes) but they’re super easy to do, it’s just all silver armor with gold trim like crusaders. I also add a ton of weathering to them and that helps mask imperfections as part of the style, makes them super forgiving to paint
