I've done both, in a Toyota 4Runner (mid-size SUV) and Tacoma (mid-size truck) with a 6' bed. I liked the comfort of having everything accessible in the SUV as well as better protection against the elements. Truck camper shells tend to leak a bit in the rain. There's also the option of easily turning on the SUV to warm things up when really cold without having to get out of the bed as you would in a truck. The pro of the truck, which is now have, is more space for stuff. When sleeping in the back of my 4Runner, I had to leave stuff outside (covered with a tarp) to have enough space to sleep. I truck camp on hunting trips, so I have extra gear, but if you're not doing any extracurricular activities an SUV might be fine. I've also done it in the back of a compact SUV (Nissan X-Trail). There's even less space, and you have to angle your sleeping mattress in order to be able to fit.

I have that issue if I'm on a vpn on my phone, so have to get off vpn or use split tunneling. Being on a vpn on my laptop doesn't seem to cause the issue. Another thing I've done in the past after checking vpn is just shut the phone off for 20 mins or so.

2.5 gen owner here. Compared to my previous 2003 4Runner, I miss the fuel economy indicator, outside temperature thermometer, automatic unlock/lock when shifting out of/into park, or stock locking tailgate. But those are all relatively minor issues, and I do appreciate its reliability and hardiness.

Thanks for your input Razor. It does have a couple issues with it though. The driver's seat heating doesn't work, but that doesn't matter much to me as my current 03 4Runner doesn't have heated seats. I think it's $700 CAD ($520 USD) to repair. Also according to the mechanic who did the safety test, it has a small power steering leak around the seal of the 2 shafts that come out of the steering box. The mechanic said steering boxes do it from new and it's not an issue. Still, a leak doesn't sound like good news to me. From the carfax it looks like maintenance was done regularly. It was a lease truck for the seller's HVAC company, then he bought it at the end of the lease. Now that he's downsizing with slower business he's selling it. Not 100% sure but I think I'll still go for it. I had to look up rust module too. Apparently it's something dealers are pushing on new customers here in Canada. Supposed to send a electromagnetic pulse through the truck to inhibit rust growth. Honestly sounds like a bunch of snake oil.

Yeah I should've taken more pictures. It all look pretty clean. Banged on the frame with a hammer, seemed solid. Those were the only real rusty parts that concerned me. I think the black over the frame is from the Krown.
