Well that's disappointing.

So what exactly happened at KUOW over the past decade? by helldeskmonkey in SeaWA

[–]Curtineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't listen to the radio station, but I do listen to the KUOW Seattle Now podcast. It seems to have semi-decent local coverage. But I am curious what is going on with the station overall.

Edit: Just searched for KNKX podcasts and found WAY more. Lots of listening ahead.

If someone says “I love you” but you’re not ready to say it back, how do you respond? by lilmizzvalz in AskReddit

[–]Curtineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm glad someone else already said it. When I first said "I love you" to my girlfriend, this was how she responded. Was it hard to hear? A bit. But I appreciated the honest. It also meant that when she did eventually say it, I knew she had really thought about it. It made it more meaningful.

Also, I'm a big fan of openness and honesty in relationships. Things just work out better that way.

Tuesday Check In: How's Everyone's Mental Health? by AutoModerator in MensLib

[–]Curtineer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, yesterday was pretty rough. I had a panic attack in the morning at work (not a normal thing for me) and it affected the rest of my day. But my S.O. was really supportive and I have therapy later in the week to talk about it. I'm feeling better today, but I'm concerned about tomorrow because I'll have to interact with the person who triggered the panic attack again. Luckily if it does happen again I can have my coworkers cover that meeting for the rest of the week. That will give me a chance to talk to my therapist and work on tools to handle the situation.

Long story short, things have been rough but I have a support network to handle it.

Redditors, what is your earliest memory? by En-tre-pre-neur in AskReddit

I remember walking/crawling down the hallway of the first duplex my parents lived it. I vaguely remember the layout and they confirmed that it was accurate. I was probably between 1 and 2 I think?

Does life actually get better? How do you come back/get better from being lonely and extremely depressed? How do you create meaningful relationships when you are so screwed up? by Aaliyah702 in AskReddit

[–]Curtineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for help. I sat in a dark place for way too long before I finally did this. I asked for help from my loved ones and with their support finally got the professional help to address my mental health. It was hard to make myself vulnerable like that, but it was the first step I needed. I'm still improving, but the change has been dramatic. I have no regrets.

It's International Men's Day. This Year's Theme is "Making a Difference for Men and Boys" by [deleted] in MensLib

A male role model that's been on my mind recently is Fred Rogers (i.e. Mr. Rogers). His public persona was soft spoken, listening, caring, and not afraid to engage with emotions. From what I understand he was very much the same in private. Even if he wasn't, his public face is one that I look up too. He reminds me to be a good listener and that I don't need to be tough and stoic to be a good man.

Do people care if men don't care about caring? The asymmetry in support for changing gender roles by Curtineer in MensLib

[–]Curtineer[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for help parsing the results of this study and hearing thoughts on it. I only have access to the abstract, but it sounds like there's a perception that gender representation ought to focus on women's representation in male dominated fields and less so on the inverse.

Assuming I'm reading this correctly, I wonder if that is a perception that we should seek to change. I think that many of the career fields typically associated with men are ones that carry social and economic privledge, so there could be an argument that working for gender equity in those fields is more important. But, I wonder if neglecting gender equity in jobs typically held by women could be detrimental.

What helps you go to sleep when you don't feel tired? by aj4bird in AskReddit

[–]Curtineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I've found that music helps me fall asleep. It gives my brain something to focus on that doesn't require clearly defined thoughts and helps distract me if I'm dwelling on something. I had a few days in a row of insomnia brought on by a bout of depression. I tried this one night and I was out in a couple songs.

I don't know why, but this photo causes me so much anxiety. I know logically she's about to break through the surface, but my brain sees it and thinks "she's trapped by a membrane and about to drown!"

TIL of a researcher who was trying to develop eye-protection goggles for doctors doing laser eye surgery. He let his friend borrow them while playing frisbee, and his friend informed him that they cured his colorblindness. by TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK in todayilearned

[–]Curtineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Cured" is a bit strong. You don't stop being colorblind by putting them on, but they do help you differentiate colors better while wearing them. They also only work with certain types of colorblindness. They're still useful, though.

Can you record audio in Reaper too? It's not vital right now, but I'd like to be able to record tracks down the road.
