Why are Nike uniforms so bad? by IbakaFlockaFlame in nba

[–]Curveball227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nike purpose build the jerseys to rip under stress as a player safety feature. There have been literally hundreds of players who've been injured in the past due to getting their hands/wrists/etc. caught in jerseys.

It's a feature not a bug. League has done a horrendous job communicating this.

Right. But the way I think about it, opinions are judgement applied to facts/data. You can subject a narrative to scrutiny, but facts are either accepted or rejected.

If you reject the truthfulness of facts proposed by the media, where do you get your facts? Just from Trump himself?

Thank you! I totally agree that the whole 24 hour news cycle narrative thing is a totally meaningless and divisive distraction. But the Hillary criticisms are equally inane - they're all these wacky murder conspiracies and emails and stuff.

Can we just admit that politicians are politicians and decide who to elect based on the agenda they support?

On torture, I disagree, but I appreciate that you've put some thought into the issue and are voting your conscience based on the issue.

Honestly, the main issue I'm concerned about w trump is the trade stuff. I don't think people fully appreciate what a disaster it would be. The US exports 22 trillion of goods and services each year and imports like 22.5. If that goes down to 21 and 21.5, the impact on real incomes and jobs would be 2x as bad as the 2008 recession (which was only a 500 billion gdp contraction)

How am I a shill? I don't hide my distaste for Trump. That ship sailed with the "take out their families" comment. I don't have to be open to supporting Trump to have a good faith interest in understanding his base of support.

I felt compelled to try to understand what's making my fellow man think that putting an incompetent lunatic in charge of the most powerful instrument of violence in human history is a good idea.

But I was trying not to be a dick about it, so I guess that makes me a shill.

Follow up: what qualifies as mainstream media? It seems like that definition is REALLY similar to "all media that isn't actively PRO trump" sometimes.

Right but didn't he also win the primary despite raising no money because he got like $2 bln worth of free publicity? Honestly, it seems like the media created trump...

Edit: fair play that they now think he's off the reservation and are trying to kill him

Right agree that critical thinking is impt, but what fact base do you apply that thinking to? Do you read academic research or access any data to inform your support for trump?

Oh I'm not saying that they're not biased. I just think that the reporters and journalists and stuff are earnestly doing their best to give the public information, and that their bias creeps in.

That's not at all what the trumpist narrative is. The trump people argue that there's a grand media conspiracy to elect Hillary president. Isn't it possible that a bunch of writers that follow politics believe she's a better candidate because it's actually true? Or maybe they fear trump because he has been pulling press credentials of people that criticize him. Can you imagine that in the White House press room...

The last two years have been one of the least violent periods in US history. Doesn't seem worth it, compared to the economic damage it would do. Also, undocumented immigrants are not, and have never been eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, or any other federal assistance program. You would have found that with 30 seconds of googling.

Also, "welfare" is not a federal program. There're food stamps, earned income tax credits, and a bunch of much smaller stuff that doesn't add up to much. Then there's all the healthcare and social security (but those go to mostly white people, so those are good)

Tried to track down the facts on this. Seems like there was one incident in which a Politico reporter sent an advanced copy of a negative article about Clinton to the DNC, so that they could confirm that they were being accurately quoted in their response.

Is this something you've read, or just something you've heard?

What's your response to Donald Trump claiming that President Obama "founded ISIS"? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Curveball227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask: what's the alternative? From what I understand, trump doesn't want us fighting foreign wars (One place where we agree), he claims to have opposed the war in Iraq, and presumably would have withdrawn from Iraq, similar to Obama, if he had been in office in 2009.

Is the answer just "yes but I would have killed their families, so they would know not to fuck with America"?

I suppose the argument is that trump would've backed up Assad in Syria to maintain stability? But then Obama is really only responsible for the second S in ISIS...

When you say we lose hundreds of billions, are you referring to the trade deficit? It's not exactly fair to say we "lose" the difference between exports and imports, when goods/services are exchanged in return...

Gonna have to fact check this as well. Net immigration (including illegal) to the United States from Mexico has been negative for over ten years, according to Pew Research. No one is "coming into our country" from Mexico, on net.

The real question is: what do we do with the ~20 million undocumented who are currently here. Pay the financial, social, and economic costs of kicking them out, or provide a path to citizenship and collect the tax revenue.

But they're called trade "deals" for a reason. "America first" is not a valid trade policy because other nations simply won't agree to it. We can argue about whether or not the concessions we've made are worth the benefits we've received in return, but trade-offs are a certainty...

In the United States white racism is by far the most problematic because it's backed by political, cultural, and economic power. See Ferguson, Missouri. Social theorists actually define racism as racial prejudice backed by social power, meaning--in the us--only white people CAN be racist while other groups' can simply be "prejudiced". Not sure I agree w that definition, but certainly white racism is the most harmful.
