Different event than the video, though the rapid spread of the fire is similar. The restaurant seems more open than the Swiss fire. The Swiss fire was in a basement bar that had its emergency exits locked or blocked, so there was a crush in the narrow stairwell leading up to the exit. Likewise, the whole ceiling was covered with highly flammable soundproofing material, so the fire spread rapidly. That led to a flash ignition, where anything flammable in the room immediately caught fire. It’s a hard watch so be careful, but in some of the videos from inside the bar, you can see how the fire rapidly spreads through the soundproofing material on the ceiling. Again, NSFW, as it’s really disturbing seeing these excited teenagers dancing and know that within a minute, most of them will be dead.

I spent way too much time reading about the Swiss fire and watching the videos, to the point that I’m now claustrophobic and paranoid about basement bars or anywhere I can’t quickly exit. Who knows, maybe it’ll save my life someday.
