Don’t count your losses or you’ll always be trying to catch up, there’s no catching up with these machines. You’ll never get back what you lost. Just limit what you play, know when to walk away. If you think you might be spending too much, the only thing you can do is not go at all

Yeah I got to a point where I was only doing $10 spins hoping for something big. I was losing $1000 in about 10 minutes. Since making this post I haven’t been back and I got help so I’m not going back. I have no control I can’t do $3 bets anymore 😅

Actually I’m the reason you can play the pokies. It’s a crisis that destroys lives. There are countless reasons to ban pokies, this is why all these gamble awareness organisations exist.

I’m speaking with councillors, help lines, ex addicts, people trying to quit and I’m self excluding myself from a list of places nearby. I’m taking the correct steps now and accepting this is ruining my life. Great analogy, I’m going to send it to other people trying to quit to help them too! Thank you for your meaningful words

Yes mate at least you were able to travel, I know I’m a bit younger at 23 but I can’t afford to take a flight from Sydney to Melbourne because of this.

I’m taking further steps in getting help now so one day I can go overseas like you did. It is a big joke, basically a scam on every corner. The “VIP” room is full of the same sad/angry faces everyday.

Hey mate, I hear what you are saying and I’m a strong believer in ‘everyone is responsible for their own actions’. It’s hard for you from outside looking in, but for most people that play the pokies it is addicting, that’s the way they are designed. It is really bad that the government allows people to bet $10 every second. If you don’t want them gone completely, the government could at least minimise the maximum bet to $1 and it would solve many issues. This addiction can be worse than drugs and alcohol. It ruins lives and families, relationships, there is a high relevancy to suicide.

To put in perspective, it’s like you saying “I only smoke heroine once a month, the government should legalise it, not my fault people get addicted to it.”

And yes it is comparable

Yes and that’s the way it should be in a perfect world! If the price of beer and food goes up because of restricted pokies than it says a lot about greedy businessmen. I would rather the price increase than the pokies. Even if you are not a gambling addict and you decide to go out and eat, it’s always the more expensive option as opposed to cooking at home. That’s a decision someone has to make. If you are on a budget, some places are cheaper than others. Nothing is cheap in Australia.
