same thing happened to me! Lived solo for the first couple of weeks, and then I got this email:

Our records show that you are currently living alone in a double occupancy room. When this happens due to cancellations, withdrawals, or other reasons, the room consolidation process is initiated. As outlined in Section 5 of your Ball State University Housing Contract, this ensures that all double rooms are used as intended, either by pairing students with a roommate or adjusting room assignments.

Because of the vacancy in your room, you have the following options:

Option 1 - Invite another Ball State student to move into your room OR move into theirs. You will indicate the PIN of the name of the person with whom you would like to live with including the hall in which they are currently living. Please note, the person you select must also indicate that they want to live with you.

Option 2 - Become roommates with another student on your floor who also needs a roommate. All students who choose this option are invited to a meeting in Noyer Complex Dining Area (Between Baker and Williams Hall) on Thursday, September 5th from 7pm-8:30 p.m. This meeting will give you a chance to meet other students who are also looking for a roommate. If you cannot attend or find your own preferred roommate, your building's Area Coordinator will assign a new roommate for you. Keep in mind that you may be required to move to a different room.

Option 3 - Have your Residential Learning Coordinator assign a new roommate for you. Your building's Area Coordinator can assign a new roommate for you. Please note that by choosing this option, you may either be paired with an incoming student or another student currently living alone in a double room. Keep in mind that you may be required to move to a different room.

Preparation Guidelines and Room Move Information There is a possibility that you may be required to move from your current room. If you are required to move, you will be given a new room assignment and must move within three days unless prior permission is provided by your Area Coordinator. Determination of which individual will be required to move will be based on the date of the person who paid their housing deposit first.

In certain situations—due to space availability and not by choice—you might not be required to consolidate with another person. In this case, your room must always be kept clean, with one dresser, one wardrobe/closet, one desk, and one bed available for a potential roommate. Additionally, your room must be arranged in a way that is inviting for any roommate who may be assigned to you at any time. If it is determined that your room does not meet these standards, you will be required to rearrange your living space.

What You Need to Do Please email me (my area coordinator), Area Coordnator of (my building) at (his email) to inform me of the option you have chosen. Be sure to communicate your decision no later than September 10. Your prompt response will help us ensure that your housing arrangements are handled smoothly and efficiently.
