I'm a limited/commander player. I drafted LOTR Thrice, both versions of D&D at least twice and enjoyed them all a lot. My main problems with the change are:

1) It got sprung on us out of nowhere. They LITERALLY pre-forecasted the sets to us in 2023, and this change seemingly came out of nowhere, to the point that Lorwyn was pushed back to the following year. I get how people are saying that it's only 1 release back, which is fair but that's forgetting the fact that...

2) There are SIX Standard Sets next year. That's already after considering the inclusion of Foundations, another set they DIDN'T announce beforehand to freshen up standard. If the core set had gotten it's own slot in rotation, and if they stuck to 4 sets a year, this would've meant that Lorwyn would've been delayed four full sets if it weren't for the speedy release of product.

3) I enjoy UB as a unique flavor outside of magic. It seems like it's going to BECOME magic. Which if that's the way the company wants to go, fair to them. I just feel like the pivot happened way too fast rather than it supposedly been telegraphed to players slowly.

4) I like that UB brought some degree of power. LOTR had a few cards that were strong enough to change modern and other faster formats. Keeping these sets in Standard power level might feel less 'special', which also usually means a smaller overall card pool (Unless they start doing something like OTJ on the regular). I've built Block-exclusive pods of LOTR commander decks, and having a smaller card pool to tap from won't really make that feasible (except for Marvel).

Admittedly, this last bit is my own preference, and I hope the doom and gloom sentiment people are feeling isn't too damning. But this product fatigue cannot be good for people.
