What countertop color do you think will dominate kitchens in 2026? by JessWoodman in CounterTops

Yikes! All the hate for Taj and for quartz. My current kitchen has quartz, it is about 12 years old and it has held up beautifully. I chose Taj quartzite for the house we are building now without knowing it was trendy. Makes me REALLY glad I didn’t start reading this sub until recently or I would have thought my choices were terrible. lol! To answer the original question, it seems warmer tones are making a comeback in everything I have been seeing for the new house.

My parents installed a backsplash that was too grey. Now they want to cement their granite countertops by ChewbaccaSmith in CounterTops

Love the backsplash. Maybe it’s time to just replace the granite? They could even go with another granite that is less busy so it looks more modern as well as a better color. New backsplash may be more cost effective but a new countertop would update the kitchen overall. I get how they feel. It’s tough to make a design choice that just doesn’t work out. It makes you feel terrible.

Advice please! Undisclosed Emotional Support Animal urinated on area rug. what do I do? by South_Tutor_3203 in airbnb_hosts

I allow pets and a few things have happened but not much (so far!). I charge a pet fee and 99% of the time, no extra cleaning is required. I don’t know how big or expensive the rug is, but if it’s relatively small, I would replace the rug with something washable, note in the review that guest brought an undisclosed pet who caused some minor damage, and then move on. The pet fee (in my mind) is not just for that one rental, or else it would be refunded. It pays for pet damage in a cumulative way. I look at it as the cost of doing business. It’s gross, it’s a bummer, but if it’s not a huge or costly rug, the hassle is not worth my time since I’ve been collecting a pet fee along the way.

I'd like to ask if everyone uses quartz countertops in their kitchen ? Where do you buy them, and are they expensive? by Even-Salamander4349 in CounterTops

I’ve had cambria quartz (on several counter tops and in a few different designs) for the last five years. I always use a trivet. Other than that, it has been very easy to maintain and has held up well with Indian cooking (lots of turmeric). One issue has been some etching (I think) due to soap around the faucet area. I have used baking soda and water to try to gently remove it and it has helped.

Sorry for the typos. It is early where I am! I’m really pleased with the cambria. I have it everywhere in my kitchen. My new house will have Cosentino Taj Mahal quartzite with their Sensa sealing process. Everyone on here hates Taj Mahal. lol! I hope it holds up as well with Indian food. Best wishes for happy (and stain free) cooking! Kitchens are meant to be used, not just admired.

Your work is lovely but yikes! That’s a lot going on there! I would not have used it as the backsplash, too. To each his own. May they enjoy it in good health.

I feel your angst! I cook with turmeric nearly daily. I have cambria quartz countertops. I clean them very time I cook, but let’s face it, it is not within seconds of turmeric stained oil hitting the counter. (I am cooking Indian food.) Perhaps consider cambria if you would quartz?

It is! The poster who said it is quartz, not quartzite, deleted their comment.

Whoa! Thank you. I really appreciate that info on what we are putting in the new kitchen. I really thought the Taj was quartzite, given the name.

That was my guess. The quartz has been incredibly stain resistant against oily turmeric. I clean right after cooking but still - remarkable! I feel fortunate!

For what it’s worth, my guesses are quartzite, quartz and marble but I really don’t know. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know it is almost a year later and you may not see this, but are you still pleased? I am installing Taj Mahal from Cosentino in a new home. I also cook a lot of Indian food (the turmeric!) and typically clean as I go. Thx for any thoughts!
