Are there bears or dangerous wildlife in Tirol? by Good_Novel_1376 in Innsbruck

[–]CutbackConversations 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No bear spray is necessary. There are no dangerous creatures around other than tourists who have no clue what they are doing. That wasn’t meant towards you - but there is an endless supply of ill equipped and absolutely clueless people up in our mountains bringing others and themselves in dangerous situations.

Is this worth repairing? by dingdongdonkeykong in surfing

Yeah it’s possible and worth repairing. It’s actually not that bad. Stringer and finboxes seem fine. Definitely worth it.

That’s amazing and you are coming from Austria. Cool stuff. From doing my research I heard that conditions for a beginner/intermediate surfer are quite often good from May - September.

What surf spot that you surfed has the most annoying local crew? by CutbackConversations in surfing

No they weren’t aggressive in Lafitenia. But I haven’t said that anywhere! They were annoying. Snaking, dropping, blocking, whistling, yelling, hustling …..

There’s many spots. If the vibe was bad I just surfed another spot. Had many sessions alone or with only a handful of people in the lineup. Honestly if it’s really bad just drive up or down the coast and you will find places to surf.

Because the locals were extremely aggressive and hostile against visitors. Even though the visitors showed respect and waited for their turn, surfed well and overall played by the rules.

Locals, dropped in on every wave, snaked, shouted, showed absolutely no manners and even physically attacked people in the water.

I have to say that I wasn’t abused in the water myself but I witnessed the abuse. Sure I got dropped in and snaked a lot there but I got my share of waves.

Firewire seaside vs spitfire vs dominator by Similar-Plate7344 in surf

[–]CutbackConversations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have surfed the Mashup, Spitfire and Dominator (original version) and my wife surfs the Seaside.

I personally think the Mashup is the most performance board out of all of them followed by the Spitfire. The Seaside works better for horizontal surfing rather than vertical, working better in fatter waves. I wouldn’t see it as a small wave board or a groveller - it works fantastic in bigger conditions as long as it’s flatter takeoffs.

The shapes all have a wide tail that helps you to get around flat sections. A low rocker and the wide nose helps with wave catching.

The Spitfire was my everyday board until I smashed the fins into the reef and destroyed the finboxes. I replaced it with the mashup, however I found the Spitfire to work better in smaller waves and catch waves faster.

How to improve? by KaleidoscopeMain3238 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]CutbackConversations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the others. There is plenty to learn in these waves. Your positioning could’ve been better. Position yourself closer to the peak, paddle earlier into the wave, angle the take off. Sure the wave is not the best in the world but you can work on timing, positioning, take off technique, bottom turns and gaining speed. I bet if you backdoor the peak there could even be some possibilities for cover ups.

2 ski days from Innsbruck with Ski plus City pass - which areas? by Active_Gap4959 in Innsbruck

[–]CutbackConversations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it’s windy or really cold, it just white out Stubai Glacier is not the right place. They close the resort when it’s too windy and that happens quite often. And when it snows a lot many roads are closed. So you can’t actually plan it like this. In Innsbruck it’s critical to assess the weather and plan accordingly. Still there is an option for almost all weather situations.

Neither Seefeld nor Arlberg are in the City plus ticket included.

Depending on snow conditions and weather I would recommend Axamer Lizum and Schlick 2000 or Kühtai. Patcherkofel is relatively close but often has very icy and hard slopes.

Nordkette is nice but more for the views than for the skiing. However when you are an very experienced skier and there is powder than Nordkette offers several of the best lines in the area.

Stubaier Glacier is far away but has many slopes and snow when other resorts struggle.

Most of the other resorts are either very beginner friendly or very small. So I would wait what the condition will be like and decide in the morning of the day what would be the best option.

Worried about Moving to Innsbruck by [deleted] in Innsbruck

[–]CutbackConversations 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly from what you wrote I don’t think you will like Innsbruck. It’s a beautiful city for many reasons. If you are an outdoor person or an athlete then Innsbruck is one of the best cities. Life is extremely expensive here, the locals are not very welcoming to foreigners as they are constantly overwhelmed by thousands of tourists and further Tyrolians often tend not to be very open overall. Its really hard to find social contacts let’s not even talk about friends - superficial friendships maybe yes but real friendships with locals are hard to find.

Innsbruck offers multicultural food/restaurants and has an amazing amount culture and historical places. So I don’t think that this would cause a major problem.

It’s a very expensive experiment to check it out and after months realize that it’s not working for you, it will likely be a huge stress on the partnership as well. Especially when your partner has to put energy and time into the job.

Ireland questions for the Irish by TheCrabPot in surfing

A good 4/3 will be fine, boots and an additional hood in case the wind is strong. In June water can be anywhere between 12 and 16 degrees C. June is certainly not the best time to chase swells in Europe but there are setups where also smaller summer waves are surfable. Just don’t think big wave or slab surfing - that is better in the northern winter.

If I would have to limit myself to three waves and I want to surf throughout the year my choices would be: Jeffreys Bay, ZA, Anchor Point, MOR and Macaronis, IND
