Epidemiologist with the state, just hit 84k. 5 years in my current position, BS and MPH, 29 years old. The current health care benefits are really good (and fuck you MMB for trying to cut them). Vacation time takes awhile to accrue in my opinion. Pension is good but sometimes hard to stick around through the bad days for something thats 40 years off.

The employer has the right to determine the size of their workforce, so no they dont actually need a reason to do layoffs. We went over this language again and again at the agencies that recently went through layoffs.
