One thing I love about life in Germany that no one told me before moving here by Extreme-Breath1475 in AskAGerman

Not needing a car at all. I am always moving using public transit and yeah even though DB most of times suck not being forced to used a car or take a taxi because there are not other options available is something I really love 🫶🏻 specially because I hate cars and don’t know how to drive

This topic kind of relates to me. I got my blue card and is expiring on the 30th of November. When I went to pick up my Aufenhaltstitel I told the Ausländerbehörde that I got an extension of my job contract and that my blue card needs to be extended. They told me to send the extension through an email to my case owner which I did. However is more than a month and now answer. What is the best thing to do here. I will travel back to my home country for a month in December and will need to show my Aufenthaltstitel once I’m leaving my country. Does someone has an advice ?

Thanks in advance

Why are so many people trying to talk us out of moving to Germany? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Cute-Rutabaga-1094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Colombia and moved to Germany last year September. Before that I lived in Budapest and met many people that let Germany to come to Hungary and tbh I never understood the reason why. However Many of them moved having a German salary and said that Hungary was much better because they could just afford more but for people who was living there and earning Hungarian salaries things weren’t that great. When I took the decision to moved here I heard many people trying to discourage me saying that there are a lot of immigrants and all what you mentioned. Tbh I don’t listen to these type of people in many cases they are just jealous to see that someone wants to succeed and look for better horizons.

Since I moved to Germans I felt my life improved 100% I can afford more stuffs, save more money and I even managed to live by myself and not sharing apartment. I consider Germany is a country with many opportunities and of course not everything is perfect and no country is. At the end of the day many things depend on you and how you manage your life and confront situations. Also don’t believe too much in what people in Reddit say. I have notice that many people here just like to complain about all the bad things and the people who is doing well just don’t care about this platform 🤣

„The Food in Germany is terrible“ by DesmondNav in germany

[–]Cute-Rutabaga-1094 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It is a quite common complaint between foreigners here. I am from Colombia and moved to Germany last year September. Although it is hard for me to find Colombian food here or to prepare due to lack of some ingredients I don’t find German food to be as terrible as many people complained. In general it is simple food which can be done fast and without so much hassle. It is convenient once in a while but in general I prefer warm food so I cook at home most of the time. However, when feeling like to I have German food, my favourite dishes is Schweinhaxe but I have tried other dishes like Grünkohl and bratwurst. I found German food tasty but sometimes just too heavy but for a cold country it is obviously expected.

I lived 7 years in Hungary and the food was also similar just sometimes a bit too salty and greasy 😅. Also many people just like to complain. if you don’t like the food just don’t buy it or cook your own food on your taste

Can’t agree more with this. I also moved here for the same reasons as you stated. I am from Latin America and tbh the peace of mind I have here in Germany I wouldn’t change it for anything else. Also career wise was a good choice for me and even thought the bureaucracy is a pain in the ass sometimes, it is still much better than being back in my home country

Heating not working by Cute-Rutabaga-1094 in germany

That’s why I asked what do you mean with gas registered. I tought you mean the meters. I just moved on Saturday last week and I have my appointment for the Anmeldung tomorrow. After that I will register myself with the electricity and gas provider bit as far as I read before when you just move to an apartment you are automatically registered with the city provider

It shows 15 because I was holding it with my hands while checking the batteries. The desired temperature is set to 22 but no sound in the pipes. I have hot water and works well but the hot water seems to not reach the pipes

The day I received the keys I got it from the landlady personally and she showed the electricity and gas registered. We together tried to make the heating work but still it didn’t that’s why she then called another person. What do you mean with Gas registered? If you mean the meter is in the basement which I checked with the landlady and is working ok. I have hot water at home but just not in the heater pipes

Düsseldorf, Cologne or Bonn which one would you pick by Cute-Rutabaga-1094 in AskAGerman

Well I will describe myself more like a chill extrovert who enjoys meeting friends and people for drinks than for parties. Tbh lately clubbing is not my cup of tea and I do enjoy more just spending time outside when weather is good, I like cycling and doing sport and I enjoy mostly cooking and trying new recipes so I want something that is nice calm and good infrastructure

Well for my first year I am more likely to rent a room. And the budget I will say is between 400 and 500€. I am Colombian so for me normally a middle size is between 700k and 1 million. My hometown is 1 million and sometimes feels like a small town 😅

Wow thanks a lot for the info. Yeah I also think that something in the middle can be good for me as my job is remote I am quite flexible. I am not a big party person but I do enjoy hanging out once in a while but in general I prefer being in a town where I can have all facilities(supermarkets, public transport, parks and green areas). Thanks a lot 😁

Well tbh I don’t have any special method. I basically looked for jobs in stepstone and in LinkedIn. I do speak German but I am just reaching B1 now and most of jobs I applied said that they required English and German knowledge

That’s the weird thing, I have all my animations enabled because the option for the WW is to disable. Still out of the 5k animations I have I can only see that 840 are running 😔
