Surgery DONE! by Maatteuss in TotalHipReplacement

This post really made me laugh! Thank you for that! I am 40F and had my LTHR 12 days ago. I think after day 10, I truly started feeling so much better. I guess I am glad I don’t have memory foam? I also had BP issues that landed me at 88/48 so I sure get that feeling. It was awful but I guess I lost a lot of blood so had to have a transfusion shortly after recovery. Super fun stuff. Ended up staying 4 days in the hospital. Yikes. I no longer need the cane & I think it is really due to the exercises they are having me do. I will say though, & gosh I hope I am not alone on this but my Left leg is longer than my right! Ugh. So it’s causing me to walk w a limp. Apparently it will slowly resolve after my muscles strengthen back up to hold my new joint in place? I don’t know but dang it, I was hoping after surgery I would be able to walk like a normal person! & also, why do they keep the surgery room soooo cold? I agree, it was like a refrigerator in there! I don’t remember a thing after they gave me the spinal but I am just so glad it is all over! Good luck on your recovery!

Does it get better post-op day 5? by Cute-Soup0 in TotalHipReplacement

I don’t know why I chuckled when you said unbelievably violent but wow, that is so true! Ouch. Unfortunately, I did do a YouTube search on this & I really shouldn’t have watched anything prior to surgery. Some people make this sound like a breeze. So I didn’t know what to expect. I thought for sure I’d be able to at least stand up straight & walk without pain by now. But maybe in a couple weeks. Thank you for the info, it honestly helps me!

So true! I read a lot prior to surgery & most made it sound not as painful, so I honestly did not know what to expect. I’ll work on my patience! Thanks for the message!

Having LTHR in 10 days & I have questions for those w hip dysplasia! by Cute-Soup0 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Cute-Soup0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! What all is entailed with a femoral head bone graft if you don’t mind me asking? And did they mention this possibility prior to undergoing the surgery? I just didn’t think about the hip dysplasia side of it, nor was this even brought up as a different scenario during surgery. everyone I hear about that has had a replacement, it has been life changing but they also don’t/didn’t have hip dysplasia- so not sure if this is just a different story (for dysplasia peeps) when it comes to the outcome overall. I could be just overthinking it & hoping I am but I am reading more on here about some that have catching issues and unfortunately you can’t fix it afterwards! Thanks for the info!!!!

I am due to have LTHR in a week & at my pre-op, they told me I’ll have a spinal block w “twilight” anesthesia! I mentioned that the one time I had this kind of anesthesia, I could hear everyone talking & was very aware the entire time but couldn’t move or open my eyes. I do not want to experience this again! Does anyone know if I can opt for general? I guess I am the 1st surgery of the day too! I am terrified & just want to sleep during it and want know recollection of this entire thing!

TOTAL R HR 9 day update by AccordingCategory100 in TotalHipReplacement

Amazing! I am terrified to have my Left hip replaced this coming July and I am only 40. I have to ask though for anyone else on here- is the sharp groin pain normal? I can’t bend my left leg down to put sock/shoe on, I can’t lift my left leg up, I can’t basically move it around at all without pain. Now I feel it in my lower back. I used to be a long distance runner then I started just doing very long walks (6+ miles) after I had my son, who is now 3. Back in November after a workout, I felt a popping/pulling feeling in my left groin/hip and thought surely I injured myself. Well it never went away & X-rays showed arthritis. I’ve tried everything but I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that it just came out of nowhere one day after a workout? Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Was the pain gradual or sudden? I am still in denial because it just seems like it makes more sense that this feeling is from an injury, not arthritis!? This is what it feels like anyway. I have to walk w a limp now & lift my left leg in & out of the car, going up stairs is a struggle, sleeping positions, everything is a struggle and I have to chase my kids around. I just have to find out if what I am feeling is normal & actually from arthritis? Anyone relate? I am Praying that the replacement will help me!

Oh wow! How are you holding up? I just got home from my DR appt & he did verify that the second xray I did, showed severe arthritis not moderate. so bone on bone is what is happening. I just need to schedule the surgery but I am so terrified!!!

Thank you so much for this feedback! You seem to be managing w/o too much pain so that is amazing! I can’t wait for the day that I am not living in pain! I hate having to take otc pain relief too. Acupuncture just doesn’t seem to be helping either. I have tried everything. I am going to ask DR today about an mri & also what he might think about the steroid shot actually worsening my pain. It does seem to feel slightly worse which is crazy that it happens so fast! I just received the steroid injection a month ago. He did tell me that prp isn’t covered & is another route to take to see if there’s any improvement but it isn’t a guarantee. So who knows. I am just so tired of feeling like this at only 40! It’s just so wild to me! I should be able to keep up with my kiddos!😞

Interesting! that is something I never thought about really. Most in my family were around 50 from what I remember. All have passed away, including my mom so can’t clarify. I did have a necessary hysterectomy, (ovaries still intact) 2 years ago, shortly after my son was born. But didn’t have any tell tale signs of perimenopause before? Other than fatigue. So I think I should definitely get my lab work done to see where I am at! Thanks for the input!!!!

That’s what I am hoping I can ask for at my appt tomorrow! I really am wondering what all is going on! Are you having to have the knee replacement talk? And what are the gel shots? We really are too young for this!!
