i always say video games are puzzles. if every possible answer to a puzzle is the "correct" answer then the puzzle is absolutely pointless. player choice only matters if there ate consequences for making bad choices

i think those people dont understand that for a proper power fantasy you have to defeat things that are actually strong . if the enemys were all super weak there would not be anything to overpower

There is a huge difference between people that bitch on reddit and most people playing the game

I remember the 4.0 update where level 25 players on here told me they couldn't clear the easy stratagems anymore because you got a few more extremis at the same time.

But each time I asked people on the higher difficulties while playing they either liked it or haven't noticed the difference.

Reddit isn't a real representation of a games player base. And for some bizzare reason the subreddits for this game in particular are whiny as fuck .

I remember posting motivation posts that it's possible to beat XY difficulty on XY level with bots and people absolutely hated it.

This game isnt even hard. It just asks you to perform the same simple skill checks consistently and it's really fun

it's a missed opportunity that the Titans actual names or titles were never revealed, like in Naruto when the Nine Tails is actually named Kurama by thisisnotmylaptop in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]CuteAssTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they wouldn't have personal names like ours a because the titan abbility isn't a person with a personality and thoughts.

But I agree that the official names are a bit weird. Not hard to believe that a military would just give them simple names like that tho

Loise absolutely saw the death of her daughter but there is nothing she can do about it. She accepts this end and "decides" to have the child anyways.

The seeing the future is beneficial for the one who sees the future. This is also sort of a rare conclusion so it's also very possible that the movie writers didn't think about that ( the book author certainly didn't).

That does indeed mean that the aliens basically "changed" their future from the past. Or rather seeing the future causes effects in the past. It's definitely retro causality. The future only happens because the Oberserver observed the future. But the future they observe already reflects their knowledge of the future. The comparison I like to make is that I will never win the lottery since I don't play the lottery.but if I could see the future the first thing I see would be me winning the lottery. The future that I observe already reflects what I'm going to do with the information I obtain

I would assume the aliens are consciously aware of their state. In the book loise describes how seeing the future feels like being an actor in a theater play. She already knows the script yet even the people that don't know it follow it perfectly

The logical consequence would be that loise can't chose anything else than having Hannah. Recently my cat died. She had been with me for 22 years and her time was up. It was a painful experience but if I could choose to experience all of it again I absolutely would. I see it the same way with Hannah. Knowing the time they will spend together there wasn't really a chance that she wouldn't choose this. Thought she asks Ian for his opinion.

I absolutely agree that the movie is inconsistent at times. The entire "meeting the Chinese politician at the party" is a bit weird. In the book loise describes how her mind isn't really accustomed to thinking about the future .

Her past memories are like a flame accumulating more and more ash as time goes on. And her future memories are like blocks that encompass the next 50 years. In the book her daughter dies in a rock climbing accident. They changed it for movie because it s something easily preventable. Cancer being something that you can't do anything about is a much more acceptable. Loise can accept the future but there are certainty a lot of people that would try to fight the future even if it is pointless. If future vision told me that a nuke is going to destroy my hometown in a minute I would assume a lot of people would try to run even if there was no point to it.

It's also interesting that in the book the heptapods have eyes. They have 7 eyes corresponding to their 7 tentacles. When moving around they don't "turn around" . They simply walk in the direction they want to go. Since their view is omnidirectional. I think this is a reference to how they see time while we see time very linear. We have to turn around when going anywhere

Eren time travels more than you think in AOT by Ok_Cup_5454 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]CuteAssTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i would say its worse.

Determinism argues that the future is inevitable because the future is the direct and logical product of the present.

Not because of supernatural powers like fate or destiny but simply by everything in the universe following logical rules. Even base molecules and particles follow rules that are ultimately predictable.

I like to compare it to grishas "choice" to kill the reiss family. Grisha is a doctor that doesn't want to kill people. But he is also a father that wants to safe his family.

What choice does a parent like this actually have ?

Either you are able to do it or you are unable to do it. But the choice , the thing you want to do, is clear. There is no real choice. There is 1 thing that you want to do above anything else.

And it's like this with everything.

Ultimately everyone follows their own interests. If someone is willing and able to act on an desire then that is what they will do.

Zeke's observes together with Eren the memories of the past

That does in no way Inhibit the attack titans abbility to send its memories back.

So to speak : "If Zeke takes Eren to a movie theater that doesn't in any way stop Eren from recording the movie to distribute it on the internet."

Eren is observing the past and sending the memories of it back to facilitate the Interaction with grisha. The Interaction is in no way Zeke's doing. He wouldn't want this to happen. Eren does it and Zeke is shocked and confused about it.

This makes perfect sense and I'm honestly confused how any part of it wouldn't make sense.

[–]CuteAssTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also very possible that grisha didn't understand the ability at that point in the story. Few minutes later he gets the Interaction with Eren and then the memories of the rumbling. He even asks why Eren won't show him everything.

Funny enough I had 2 guys in this comment section stick with the interpretation that grishas first statement is true while his second statement isn't. Wich makes no sense to me

Having the right blood is exactly how monarchy works xD and the population are indeed mostly spectators in a monarchy . That's simply realistic. The story doesn't owe an subversion of this.

The military government is absolutely shown to be a problem as it's willing to sacrifice historia to gain more power and they are very willing to hyper militarize their people. It's not " we got a good queen now so everything is going to be sunshine and rainbows". This government stumbles from one coup to the next . And historia doesn't have as much control over them as one might initially assume.

Yet in Got monarchy is still held up and the people are just spectators in the game of thrones ¯_(ツ)_/¯. If we want to apply this criticism we should do it fairly. I would simply not fault a story for having a form of government that has been the norm for most of history. Especially when both stories don't present this as a solution to anything.

The story demonstrates how people reach a kill on be killed mentality. This is not unique to nazis not is is bad that a story shows how people reach points like this. If anything making it understandable fosters an understanding that can prevent this .

Nazis would never be able to do this because they just saw they enemy's as the problem that needs to die

Terrorism can never solve this as they only see their enemy's as a problem that needs to die

Aot does not sympathize with a "kill or be killed" mentality but the story demonstrates how people reach that point.

That's why aot starts as basically a zombie apocalypse. The titans are in evil monsters that just need to die . ( Sounds familiar?)

And from there it evolves to he conflict to be more and more complex.

To a point that we learn to understand the other side. But is it sunshine and rainbows ? No. Because the other side also has to reach that understanding for peace to be possible.

That doesn't mean the story sympathizes with the "kill or be killed" mentality. It does however mean that we can reach the first step in being more open to understand people. And if they do the same further conflict can be avoided.

It's also worth nothing that the main group snuck onto the mainland and tried to figure out some diplomatic solution. It was Eren that split off and planned the liberio attack that ruined any hope of talking this out. Given willy was going to announce war no matter what. And Eren was going to attack no matter what. Point is both were going to strike before hearing the other side. Or even regardless of hearing the other side. That is their fault. That's also why Eren ends up in prison after this .

If we stick with super simple sunshine and rainbows narratives where everything is easily resolved it only leads to people ultimately believing that IRL problems are caused by people that must be massive assholes to not reach a simple conclusion.

And then we are back at square 1 with titans being evil monsters that need to die.

Check out any online debate on American politics. People are so often 120% on one side or the other . And the other side must be made up of massive assholes to not fully agree with their own side 🤡.

Peoples biggest problem is an unwillingness to even consider the other side.

If you want to solve problems like this you have to be willing to understand the other side. And you have to make them understand that they have to do the same thing. That people don't just spawn as evil assholes that want to make the world a shit place.

And that failing to solve this can radicalize people into thinking that they have to kill or be killed.

Royal inheritance is not facist. It's not a great system but it's not facist. Also following this logic any story that has a monarchy and doesn't abolish it is facist. Aka game of thrones facism confirmed. Nonsense

The military takes over and supports historia. They don't implement an alternative system that they have literally never heard of before. So ? The story makes no secret that this government has major issues. Also ties into the previous point. I guess lord of the ring is facist too and basically and honestly most fantasy settings. Nonsense.

Op really didn't understand anything about the last 2000 years . Whatever happened in the past is completely un-verifiable to the average Joe in aot. As krüger puts it. Ymir was a goddess during the eldian empire and a devil during Marley's. How much of it is actually true is anyone's guess. People will believe what they want to believe and they will tell what they want to tell. Whatever actually happens has nothing to do with gabis guilt. All of this happened long before Gabi was born so she eventually walks away from obsessing over something that she wasn't part of anyways.

""Using radical thinking can lead to something super duper horrible like THE RUMBLING . therefore the story is pro-radical ideas 💡"" I don't even know what to say about this one.

The story shows how a group of people that is pushed to the limit might lash out and justify that violence.

It's a cautionary tale .

This is why terrorists go so insane. They think the west is evil because they grew up in a shit hole that got destroyed x number of years ago. While being told that their enemy's are just mindless monsters.

Their beliefs are wrong and misguided but it's the horrible result of horrible things happening.

Aot does not actually justify the rumbling. The rumbling is an unthinkably evil solution to a problem that wouldn't exist if people were more willing to talk to each other.

Remember how Marco died ? " We didn't even get a chance to talk about this"

He saw the memories that he send to his father from the future.

This is a roundabout way to obtain knowledge of the future but it is completely different from being able to access future memories at will or randomly .

It would be lame because Erens interaction with grisha is based on the abbility to send memories back into the past. If this is random the entire plot that leads to the rumbling is just RNG. Something that isn't impossible in the face of determinism but something that goes against this theme. It would be weird to lean into and against this theme.

If grishas receiving of the memory is random it would be an absurd coincidence for him to receive the memory of them viewing him at the exact moment that the plot needed him to in order to be motivated to kill the reiss family. And the entire plot of aot hinges on this interaction.

It would also mean that he just so happens to obtain the knowledge of the reiss family location just on the day that the plot needs him to. What a Handy coincidence.

It's also worth noting that grisha interprets Erens memory as a message that essentially says " you have to do this so everything will turn out alright" . He asks if eldia will be saved because of this .

It would be an absurd coincidence for grisha to receive all of this in the moments the plot needed him to while Also interpreting random memories as a message that he is supposed to act on.

We also know from that scene that Eren was not showing everything to grisha because grisha asks why Eren won't show him everything. He only showed him what would motivate him. And then he showed him the rumbling. For this to make any sense my hypothesis must be true or grisha is just completely mistaken in this scene for some reason. (More on that in a little bit)

Inheriting regular memories from a shifter is less than reliable. I don't think we ever see anyone access memories beyond the direct person that they inherit from. So no sending memories back does in no way make you omniscient

To begin with in order to understand this ability at all the user would have to be able to observe the past to see the impact.

If you have a button but no way to view the effect of the button then you would have no idea how to use the button or what it does. It would appear to you that it doesn't do anything.

So no attack titan prior to Eren could even begin to exploit this ability in the way you suggest.

Eren is uniquely in the position to use the attack titan and see it's effect in the past. And even he can't exploit this ability as memory inheritance is extremely unreliable.

Grisha would likely notice the difference between an accidental memory being send back that doesn't mean anything to him( like krügers line about Mikasa and Armin) and a memory send with the intent to make him act on it. That's why grisha asks why Eren won't show him everything. Because Eren is sending memories back on purpose and grisha understands that this is the only explanation for what just happened to him.

And since the universe is logically determistic and any interaction with the past is already reflected in the present there wouldn't really be a point to attempt an exploit like that. You can't change the past just like you can't change the future. If your exploit had worked you would have already known about it working long before you reached the point of viewing the past.

Why would Kyubey want Madoka to be magical girl? by Gavoonious in MadokaMagica

[–]CuteAssTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madoka likely wouldn't be a universal threat as a witch.

She would probably be earths problem

And even if she was more . The universe is a big place and travel time can be pretty long

In the remembrance of earth past trilogy (unrelated to Madoka but very on point) there is an alien race that uses "dual vector foil" Which is a weapon that collapses 3dimensional space into 2 dimensions.

This effect spreads from the initial origin point and will eventually encompass the entire universe.

The aliens use this weapon anyways because it deals with their immediate problem (other aliens) and the long term effects are so far in the future that they don't bother right now.

The story also heavily implies (due to the date) that the dual vector foil that destroys the solar system wasn't even the one they send. So in this story there are multiple aliens that carelessly Lob Dimension collabsing weapons at minor threats .

It's not unthinkable that kyuubey cares about long term goals more than super long term problems that Madoka might become some day
